Cadillac Returns To Le Mans With Four V-Series.R Racecars

The 2025 edition, scheduled for June 14-15, will mark 75 years since Cadillac’s first Le Mans entry.

Cadillac Racing is set to make a thunderous return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans this June, fielding four Cadillac V-Series.R racecars in the prestigious Hypercar class. With three experienced teams and a star-studded driver lineup, the four V-Series.R racecars aim to build on the American marque’s growing legacy at Circuit de la Sarthe.

The 2025 edition, scheduled for June 14-15, will mark 75 years since Cadillac’s first Le Mans entry way back in 1950. Cadillac’s Le Mans announcement comes shortly after Aston Martin’s announcement of the Valkyrie competing in the 2025 24 Hours Of Le Mans.

Aiming For The Top Step

Cadillac’s return to Le Mans is fueled by momentum.  After securing a podium finish in 2023 and a top-10 result in 2024, the brand is eyeing outright victory this time around.

John Roth, Vice President of Global Cadillac said, “We’re thrilled to have Cadillac Racing return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans with four cars competing for the overall win in the Hypercar class. After scoring our first podium finish at this iconic endurance race in 2023 and securing a top-10 finish last year, we look to build on that success and showcase the Cadillac V-Series.R’s technology, performance, and innovation with our 2025 entries.”

Cadillac’s lineup for this year’s Le Mans outing includes world-class talent, with drivers who have claimed victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, other FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and even Formula 1.

Cadillac’s Le Mans Contenders

Four Cadillac V-Series.R racecars will take on the grueling 24-hour challenge, with teams representing both IMSA and WEC.

The Cadillac Hertz Team Jota will field two cars in the Hypercar Class. The two cars recently took part in Round 1 of the WEC, placing 8th and 16th in the 2025 Qatar 1812 km. The driver lineup includes former F1 World Champion Jenson Button alongside endurance racing aces Earl Bamber, Sebastien Bourdais, Alex Lynn, Norman Nato, and Will Stevens.

The Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing V-Series.R racecar will enter the Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) class with Ricky Taylor as the primary driver. The fourth Cadillac V-Series.R in the lineup is from Whelen Cadillac with Jack Aitken listed as the primary driver.

Chasing Glory at Circuit de la Sarthe

The 24 Hours Of Le Mans is one of the most grueling races in the world. Many names shot to fame, chasing glory at this legendary racetrack. While Cadillac is no stranger to Le Mans, the brand’s recent Hypercar efforts have shown promise. In 2023, its entries finished third and fourth at Le Mans, and in 2024, the team qualified second and third before securing a best finish of seventh. The Hertz Team JOTA cars also demonstrated solid pace, finishing eighth and ninth.

The Cadillac V-Series.R

At the heart of Cadillac’s endurance racing program is the V-Series.R — designed to compete in the prestigious Hypercar class and powered by a purpose-built 5.5-liter DOHC V-8 hybrid powertrain developed by GM’s Performance and Racing Propulsion team, Williams Advanced Engineering, Bosch & Xtrac.

Motorsport experts Dallara designed the Chassis in collaboration with Cadillac Design & Cadillac Racing. The hybrid racecar incorporates distinctive Cadillac design cues, including vertical lighting and floating blade elements, inspired by the Project GTP Hypercar unveiled in 2022.

75 Years Of Cadillac At Le Mans

Cadillac’s history at Le Mans dates back to 1950, when American racing pioneers Briggs Cunningham and the Collier brothers entered a pair of Series 61 coupes. One of these, the famously unconventional “Le Monstre,” finished 11th, while the other placed 10th. That same year, a Cadillac-powered Allard J2 secured a third-place finish.

The brand made a comeback in the early 2000s with the Northstar LMP, competing from 2000 to 2002 with a 4.0-liter turbocharged V8. In 2023, the new V-Series.R racecar started spearheading Cadillac’s Le Mans return.

Now, in 2025, Cadillac Racing is primed to add another chapter to its storied Le Mans history. With four Hypercars in the field, a seasoned driver lineup, and a relentless pursuit of endurance racing excellence, the American automaker is ready to take on the world’s greatest 24-hour race again.
