Brentford humiliates Manchester United !
On their home ground, the Bees achieved one of the biggest feats in their history with a big win over the Mancunians (4-0)
Nightmare start to the season, nightmare start to the game. The Red Devils have just lost their first two league games and continue to experience dark times. Despite the recent arrival of new coach Erik Ten Hag, the players are struggling to execute the Dutchman’s instructions as they should. As a result, they are suffering from a series of defeats, as was the case last season. The latest humiliation was this afternoon at the Community Stadium in Brentford, where four goals were conceded in one half.
The first three goals were more or less jokes. In the 10th minute, David De Gea was left with a hole in his side’s goal when Josh Dasilva’s shot from the edge of the box did not look that dangerous. In the 18th minute, the Mancunians made dangerous and inopportune passes in their area, punished by Mathias Jensen who sanctioned them for their clumsiness. Ben Mee added a unit after a set piece that the Bees played well tactically with the Mancunians very passive which contributed to the English defender finding himself a goal scorer as he fell. Then on a lightning counter-attack, Ivan Toney ideally set up Cameroon’s Bryan Mbeumo who easily beat De Gea to quadruple the lead on 35 minutes.
Despite this debacle in the first half, there was not a hint of a reaction or a surge of pride. The former Ajax coach will have to work hard to ensure that his players assimilate his tactical choices, that they regain the mentality of a big four team and that the club regains an ounce of pride. At the moment, the level is unworthy of the Manchester United name and Ten Hag is already raising his voice.
Next up for the Red Devils : 22 August at Old Trafford to host Liverpool, their biggest rival. Bad timing for such a clash ?
