Since January this year, Boeing has announced deals with several operators and lessors worldwide. The list includes Pegasus Airlines, Malaysia Aviation Group, Japan Airlines, BOC Aviation, China Airlines, AviLease, Qatar Airways, and Etihad Airways. Now, after a quiet few weeks, the American aircraft manufacturer has revealed another aircraft deal that it has struck with Gulf Air. Bahrain’s flag carrier has placed a firm order for twelve 787 Dreamliner jets with the option to purchase six more. The new deal brings Gulf Air’s order book to 14 for the same aircraft type.
Gulf Air appreciates the economics the Boeing 787 Dreamliner offers. Its current fleet of ten 787 Dreamliner aircraft helps serve more than 50 destinations. The new aircraft will enable the airline to expand its network across new and existing markets in Asia, Europe, and the US.
Ever since the first Boeing 787 Dreamliner entered service in 2011, the family has carried over 1 billion passengers worldwide by opening more than 425 non-stop routes. Gulf Air has been a Boeing customer for decades. From its first DC-3 in 1961, the carrier has inducted and deployed 37 Boeing-made aircraft, including the 787 widebodies that are presently ferrying travellers.
