Regarded among the top airlines in the world, Qatar Airways presently operates a fleet of more than 150 Boeing aeroplanes, including passenger variants of the 777 and 787 and 777 Freighters. The two firms have now inked a new aircraft deal that has shattered multiple records.
The deal comprises up to 210 widebody jets. Qatar Airways has placed a firm order for 160 aircraft, including 130 787 Dreamliners and 30 777-9s. The airline also has options to purchase an additional 50 787 and 777X aircraft. What do those numbers mean? The latest deal equates to the largest single widebody order for Boeing; the largest order for 787 Dreamliners; and Qatar Airways’ largest-ever order. Boeing confirms this new deal will support nearly 400,000 jobs in the USA, while strengthening the carrier’s position for further international expansion.
This order was finalised in the presence of the heads of state of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the USA, President Donald J. Trump. Boeing President and CEO Kelly Ortberg, Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stephanie Pope and Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer completed the formalities.
