To further its aim of doubling its fleet size by the end of the decade, Etihad Airways has inked a new agreement with American aircraft manufacturer Boeing. The new deal is for 28 widebodies, specifically a mix of 787 and 777X aeroplanes. Powered by GE engines and supported by service packages, the new aircraft will also help the airline map a detailed and strong roadmap for its 2035 strategy.
Etihad confirms that the aeroplanes from the latest deal will begin arriving from Boeing in 2028. Here’s what Antonoaldo Neves, CEO at Etihad Airways, said about the newest aircraft order in an official release:
This commitment reflects our approach of carefully managing our fleet and expanding in line with demand and our long-term network plans. Since 2023, we’ve made consistent additions to our fleet, and this latest step ensures we continue to meet our future requirements. This addition reflects Abu Dhabi’s ongoing investment in aviation as a key enabler of connectivity, tourism, and trade. Etihad’s continued growth supports broader economic opportunity in the UAE and beyond.
