BMW Unveils The X1 M35i xDrive

It can complete the standard sprint in 5.4 seconds.

The compact “SAV†from BMW, the X1, has just received a new derivative. It is called the M35i xDrive. And it is the new range-topper in the car’s portfolio. As we’ve seen on M-fied (not the M Sport) BMWs of late, the new X1 variant has a tweaked design and a sporty sound. Also, as you’d expect, there’s enough oomph to leave the rest of the range far behind.

The headline is, of course, the engine. It’s a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol mill with redesigned intake parts and combustion chambers, among other changes. It comes coupled with a 7-speed double-clutch automatic transmission. With 300hp/400Nm on tap and the oomph going to all four wheels, the X1 M35i xDrive can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 5.4 seconds and reach 250kmph flat out. The exhaust gases are vented via two pairs of twin tailpipes – a first on a BMW M model.

The BMW X1 M35i xDrive has a mechanical limited-slip differential on the front axle. Besides that, the Adaptive M suspension and sport steering are part of the standard kit. The derivative is also the first BMW M model to have an option for M Compound brakes featuring 385mm discs at the front and 330mm at the rear. Another option to consider is the set of 20-inch M light-alloy wheels in an exclusive twin-spoke design. They can be teamed up with sport tyres, which are also on the options list. By default, the X1 M35i xDrive comes with 19-inch light-alloy rims.

Besides the performance-enhancing bits and pieces, the BMW X1 M35i xDrive also stands out from the rest of the range. That comes courtesy of multiple M-specific elements inside and outside. The list includes the front spoiler, the kidney grille, the wing mirror caps, the roof spoiler, the steering wheel, gearshift paddles and the optional M Sport seats, which come with a backlit M logo.

As far as the features list is concerned, it includes a 40:20:40 split rear seat with a tilting function, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.7-inch digital instrument cluster, a bunch of airbags, traction control, a Dry Braking Function and an extended range of digital services with the optional BMW Digital Premium subscription.

So, how do you like the BMW X1 M35i xDrive?
