After delivering one specimen of its latest creation, the A321XLR, each to operators such as Iberia, Aer Lingus, Wizz Air, and Icelandair, Airbus has delivered one more example to Australia’s Qantas Airways. The airline took delivery of its first A321XLR, which flew from Airbus’ assembly line in Finkenwerder, Hamburg, to Sydney with just one rest stop in Bangkok.
The Airbus A321XLR for Qantas Airways is powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF engines and boasts a two-class layout with 20 seats in Business Class and 177 in the main cabin. Initially, the airline will operate its latest inductee on domestic routes before potentially opening its scope to new services on secondary routes in Asia.
Qantas Airways will become the launch operator of the Airbus A321XLR in the Asia-Pacific region. Qantas Group has 40 aircraft of the same type on order, with 28 assigned to Qantas Airways and 12 to the pocket-friendly subsidiary Jetstar. This order is part of the 128 single-aisle jets Qantas Group has on order with Airbus. In addition, the Australian firm also has 24 A350-1000s on order.
