Airbus Finds A New Client In Icelandair

The airline has taken delivery of its first A321LR.

Keflavik-headquartered Icelandair has become the latest Airbus client. The airline has taken delivery of its first Airbus aircraft, an A321LR. Part of the fleet renewal program, the twin-engined jet is the first of four it will lease from SMBC Aviation Capital Limited. In addition, Icelandair will also add 13 A321XLRs, Airbus’ latest offering in the commercial aviation space.

The A321LR delivered to Icelandair is powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF engines, efficient enough for up to 4,000 nautical miles of nonstop travel. At the same time, the aircraft offers 20 per cent savings on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions compared to the previous-generation aircraft.

Indoors, the delivered single-aisle aeroplane has a two-class configuration with 187 seats (22 in Business Class and 167 in Economy). Upping the practicality quotient are XL overhead bins that provide 60 per cent more storage space than the last-gen planes. The latest in-flight entertainment systems and modern-day lighting will also help make the journeys more comfortable.
