Ducati Desmo450 EDS Unveiled: First Ducati Enduro Motorcycle

Ducati unveils the Desmo450 EDS, its first dedicated enduro motorcycle featuring a 449.6cc Desmodromic engine and Showa suspension

What is the Ducati Desmo450 EDS?

The Ducati Desmo450 EDS is Borgo Panigale’s first-ever enduro motorcycle, marking its official foray into the world of the modern street-legal enduro segment, a segment dominated by Japanese and Austrian manufacturers.

The Desmo450 EDS is based on the Desmo450 MX motocross models designed to tackle rough and unpredictable trails where terrain continuously changes.

What type of frame and mechanical hardware does the Desmo450 EDS use?

The Desmo450 EDS rides on a 21-inch front wheel and 18-inch rear wheel and uses an aluminium perimeter frame, which, according to Ducati, weighs under 9kg, nearly half the weight compared to its rivals. Ducati has managed to achieve this by incorporating the least possible number of welds, revised engine mounting points and the frame is built by 11 cast aluminium parts and components.

Desmo450 EDS features Showa suspension hardware at both ends and Brembo-sourced braking hardware. The Desmo450 EDS also features an 8.5L transparent aluminium fuel tank, a unique design that allows riders to visually monitor fuel level on the go.

How does the suspension differ from the motocross version?

The Desmo450 EDS features completely reworked Showa suspension developed with Enduro World Champion Antoine Meo, specifically tuned for enduro’s varied terrain rather than motocross jumps. At the front, the enduro motorcycle features a 49mm inverted fork with 310mm travel and a mono with progressive linkage, both sourced from Showa.

What braking system does the Desmo450 EDS have?

The Desmo450 EDS uses Brembo brakes with Galfer discs optimised for off-road use. The Brakes feature a 260mm front disc with a two-piston floating calliper and a 240mm rear disc with a single-piston calliper.

What protection features does the EDS include?

The Desmo450 EDS includes factory-fitted protection hardware for enduro use such as hand guards, Reinforced engine protection with aluminium parts, and Heat shielding around the exhaust/catalytic converter area.

What engine does the Desmo450 EDS use?

The Desmo450 EDS uses a reworked 449.6 cc single-cylinder Desmodromic engine, featuring the same revolutionary Desmodromic valve system technology seen on the Desmo450 MX. However, this enduro version is extensively modified for smooth low-to-mid-range torque delivery while allowing high revs when the situation demands.

The 449.6 CC single-cylinder engine is paired to a six-speed gearbox which is tuned for enduro use with a shorter first gear improving acceleration and a longer sixth gear for relaxed and optimum performance for long-distance stretches.

What electronics and racing kit options are available?

The Desmo450 EDS comes with standard Ducati tech such as two power modes and an LCD Instrument cluster. Ducati also offers an optional Ducati Performance racing kit that adds full race-level electronics control such as Ducati Traction Control (DTC) calibrated specifically for enduro, Launch Control, Engine Brake Control, Quickshifter and Traction Control, which offers four different levels of intervention, of which two modes are calibrated for faster riders while the other two offer more vigilance for inexperienced riders.

How does adaptive maintenance work?

The Desmo450 EDS uses an adaptive maintenance algorithm that monitors engine stress in real-time and calculates service intervals based on actual usage rather than fixed hours.

What is the price and availability?

The Ducati Desmo450 EDS is priced at €12,990 in Europe and will be available at selected European dealerships starting July 2026. And as for Indian buyers, Ducati has officially confirmed the Desmo450 EDS launch for Q1 2027 (January–March 2027) for the Indian market. There’s no official disclosure on the price for the Indian market, but expect it to be in the range of  ₹18–19 lakh.
