Jaguar E-Type of the past returns today

The iconic car is back in minimal numbers and has the same old specifications except for the heated windscreen and advanced radio.

With Jaguar’s shift to pure electric cars, the company has essentially ended its production of combustion-engined cars. However, if you’re craving a newly built E-Type with the exact old specifications, Jaguar Classic will hand-build you one from scratch. In this case, a “devoted and discerning customer in Southeast Asia” wanted a pair of E-Types,

The Commemorative Edition was born 50 years after the iconic convertible ended production.

Using the original blueprints from the 1961 Series 1 through the Series 3, which launched a decade later, Jaguar Classic has built the commemorative E-Type from the ground up.

While all previous projects have been restorations of existing E-Types, this one is the only new E-Type built since then.

Mechanically, it is powered by a 3.8-litre six-cylinder engine with electronic fuel injection, replacing the three carburettors that previously fuelled the engine. In addition, the old four-speed manual gearbox has been replaced by a more modern five-speed unit.

According to Jaguar Classic, the team spent over 2,000 hours on the car to apply all the upgrades, as other modifications include a heated windscreen and even a Bluetooth radio.

The E-Type Commemorative has Bridge of Weir tan leather seats with hand-woven upholstery complemented by black and tan leather trim. To highlight the importance of this car, an engraving of an E-Type Series I blueprint is noticeable on the anodised aluminium centre console.

Deakin & Francis, Britain’s oldest jewellery manufacturer, was responsible for the solid silver and 18-carat gold details. Decorative silver was used for the beautiful dashboard switches. The convertible’s interior looks like a work of art, blending the finest materials Jaguar Classic could find.
