MG Whale Launched In The UAE

The 4.7-metre crossover has a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to an 8-speed automatic.

Earlier this month, MG Motor opened the bookings counter for the Whale crossover in the Middle East. The SAIC-backed carmaker has now announced the vehicle’s launch in the UAE. It will be sold through its exclusive distributor for the country – Inter Emirates Motors. The crossover, which measures over 4.7 metres in length and 1.9 metres in width, stands 9mm shy of a 1.7-metre height.

Powering the MG Whale is a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine that outputs 228hp/370Nm. Harnessing that oomph and feeding it to the front wheels is a duty performed by an 8-speed automatic transmission. The car has disc brakes on all corners, a 55-litre fuel tank and a 382-litre luggage space that can be increased to 1,458 litres by folding the rear seats.

In the UAE, the MG Whale is available in two variants – Comfort and Luxury. Features such as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 360-degree camera, powered front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, cruise control and powered and heated ORVMs, are shared between the two.

However, a few creature comforts are present in one and not in the other. For instance, the Comfort derivative of the MG Whale makes do with a power tailgate, while the Luxury variant ropes in a Smart Trunk. The same story is with welcome lights – present in Luxury, not Comfort. LED ambient lights, leather seats and an auto-dimming IRVM are three more features the Luxury derivative gets. However, the Comfort variant has a front centre armrest that has storage and is slidable.

The MG Whale is available in five exterior monotone finishes – Black, White, Blue, Steel Gray and Dark Gray. Indoors, the standard theme is all black. However, the Luxury version is available with a blue-and-white theme as well. And the 6-year/200,000km warranty cover is part of the standard package.
