New Panerai Radiomir collection unveiled at Watches and Wonders 2023
The new Radiomir line-up comprises four watches with a host of brand-firsts
Watches and Wonders, considered the world’s biggest horological trade show, was the perfect podium for Italian luxury watchmaker Panerai to unveil its latest watch collection. The 2023 edition of the Watches and Wonders saw the new Panerai Radiomir collection launch comprising a four-watch line-up with a host of firsts for the brand.
Panerai Radiomir Annual Calendar
Panerai has been famed for its dive watches since the early 20th century. Amongst the new collection showcased at the 2023 Watches and Wonders event, the Radiomir Annual Calendar marks the brand’s first annual calendar complication. The Radiomir Annual Calendar introduces the in-house movement for Panerai, incorporating the month timeline into the foray, a first for the brand. The current month is displayed on an external moving disc, indicated by a fixed arrow at 3 o’clock. Every month changes a cam in the movement allowing the turning disc in one go to make the information change instantaneously. It even houses a mechanism to automatically adjust the 30 and 31-day month movement. The Panerai Radiomir Annual Calendar is powered by the automatic P.9010/AC caliber movement. This watch can be had in two variations – a burgundy dial with a platinum casing and a blue dial with a gold casing, both featuring a 45mm casing.
Panerai Radiomir California Dial
The second new model, the Radiomir California Dial, introduces the first-ever California model to feature a 45mm dial instead of the usual 47mm. The Panerai California Dial is characterised by alternating Roman and Arabic numerals encased within a Brunito eSteel finishing, a first in the brand’s history to provide an antique look along with a green dial that should allow it to become a collector’s favourite. The hand-wound P.5000 calibre powers the Radiomir California and features an eight-day power reserve, which is visible thanks to the open case-back in sapphire crystal.
Panerai Radiomir Otto Giorni
The third model in the new series marks the contemporary reinterpretation in tribute to its legendary Radiomir Collection. Termed the Radiomir Otto Giorni, this new model takes design inspiration from the first Radiomir prototype in 1935, which measured 47mm in diameter. It features a sandwich Super-LumiNova dial to make the hour markers and numerals even more legible and luminescent, along with a small seconds display at 9 o’clock. The dial comes finished in Dégradé Brown, complimented by a Cuoio Toscano calf leather dark brown strap. The hand-wound P.5000 calibre powers the Radiomir Otto Giorni and features an eight-day power reserve.
Panerai Quaranta Goldtech
If gold floats your boat, then the contemporary and most versatile Radiomir interpretation, Radiomir Quaranta, now comes in a Panerai Goldtech material finish. The Panerai Goldtech is a gold material developed for the first time by Panerai, including a combination of platinum and copper, donating an intense red appearance. Quaranta, forty in Italian, stands for the 40mm case size that defines the collection’s essence – a contemporary adaptation of the 47mm size of the original Radiomir edition made eight decades ago. The watch is powered by the P.900 calibre, a 4.2mm thick next-generation automatic movement, the first of its size from Panerai to combine the date and three days of power reserve. The dial is finished in white, complimented by an alligator dark brown strap.
