The New R8 V10 GT Is The Most Powerful RWD Audi Ever

Production is limited to just 333 units worldwide.

It was back in 2010 when Audi introduced the first version of the R8 GT. Now, twelve years later, we have the second edition. Its actual name is the R8 V10 GT RWD. There’s a lot to talk about this low-slung two-seater, but there are three main highlights. One, it’s the most powerful rear-wheel-drive Audi ever. Two, it is the brand’s last project with the V10 FSI engine, and three, production is limited to just 333 units worldwide.

The 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 pumps out 620hp and 565Nm of peak torque, while the new 7-speed dual-clutch unit handles transmission duties. Audi says that the R8 V10 GT RWD can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 3.4 seconds. The 0-200kmph sprint takes 10.1 seconds, while the top speed is 320kmph. Impressive! An exclusive design feature in the mix is a black intake manifold.

Now, if you compare the R8 V10 GT RWD with the car’s Performance RWD variant, there’s a considerable increase in oomph. Moreover, the new limited-run derivative is 20kg lighter. The weight shedding comes from the bespoke 20-inch lightweight forged wheels, ceramic brakes, bucket seats and a front roll-bar made from carbon fibre reinforced plastic. Buyers could even opt for the sportier R8 GT Coilover suspension, which further improves driving dynamics.

Another new feature that Audi has injected here is something called the Torque Rear Drive Mode. With it, the driver can adjust how loose the back end should be. Setting it at level 1, for instance, allows for minimal slippage, whereas level 7 makes drifting through the corners much more dramatic.

And to make the new R8 V10 GT RWD stand out, Audi has garnished it with a bunch of “R8 GT” badges inside-out. Also, there’s the Carbon Aerokit, which ropes in, finished in high gloss, a front splitter, flics, side skirt covers, cW-elements on the rear bumper, a diffuser and a rear wing. Colours? There are three – matte Suzuka Grey, Tangorot Metallic and Daytona Grey Metallic. Indoors, the go-fast coupe is an all-black theme with red accents. The red seatbelts are worth checking out!

The Audi R8 V10 GT RWD will hit showrooms in 2023. And the starting price will be 225,000 euros.
