Mitsubishi returns with the new Outlander SUV

The new Outlander gets a design overhaul and many technology firsts

After a brief hiatus, Japanese carmaker Mitsubishi springs back to action with the launch of a revered nameplate from its stable. The all-new fourth-generation Outlander flagship SUV gets launched in the UAE, prefacing the brand’s new design direction. The new Mitsubishi Outlander can be found across all Al Habtoor Motor showrooms, the exclusive distributor of Mitsubishi Motors in the UAE.

After garnering over 2 million sales worldwide, the new seven-seater Outlander introduces the premium design and luxurious interiors to make a case for itself. In Mitsubishi nomenclature, the Outlander features a “Bold Stride” design that inculcates broad surface lines with sharp edges. The front end gets a new and sharp look with DRLs and turn signals positioned higher than usual to provide better visibility for other drivers.

The interior of the new Outlander has more technology than ever. The instrument cluster is a 12.3-inch full digital driver display equipped with Mitsubishi Motors’ first full-screen, HD crystal display. Depending on the trim level, one even gets a 9-inch central infotainment unit with in-built navigation and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone connectivity. For the first time, Mitsubishi also equips a colour-rich 10.8-inch Head-Up Display (HUD) on the windshield to project information while driving.

Occupants of this seven-seater SUV can enjoy the 10-speaker premium Bose sound system, seat heaters and three-zone climate control. Depending on the trim level, multiple upholstery colour options are available that range between grey and black-tan dual-tone interiors. The seven-seater layout makes the Outlander unique in its class, with the option to arrange the seats in multiple configurations to suit the passenger or luggage requirements.

The fourth-generation Outlander deploys a newly developed 2.5L gasoline engine mated to an 8-speed CVT gearbox. Power output gets rated at 181hp, and 244Nm torques and the Outlander can be had in both 2WD and 4WD derivatives. In either guise, the Outlander features multiple drive modes such as Gravel, Mud and Snow.

Safety has been prioritised in the Outlander as it carries seven airbags across the cabin. A host of electronic nannies such as Forward Collision Mitigation System (FCM), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Departure Warning (LDA), Blind Spot Warning (BSW) and Lane Change Assist (LCA), among others, will aid in keeping the drive experience safe.
