The Aventador Leaves Big Shoes To Fill

And we pay tribute to the maddest Lamborghini by listing eleven highlights from its eleven-year reign.

For enthusiasts, a car is much more than a medium for travelling. For them, it represents their personality. And only those will understand, and even share, the pain of the passing of a Lamborghini. Yes, friends. The maddest bull of them all – the Aventador – has bowed out of service. Lamborghini has officially ceased production of its last pure-V12 production model.

But let’s not mourn its demise. Instead, why not look at some of the highlights from its life? Sounds good? Okay, here we go!

1. The Aventador was Lamborghini’s bestselling V12-powered model ever, clocking 11,465 sales worldwide. In fact, Lamborghini sold more Aventador models than all previous V12-powered cars put together!

2. The last production derivative, an LP780-4 Ultimae Roadster in a special Ad Personam light blue shade, is heading to the Swiss market.

3. By the fifth year of Aventador’s production, 5,000 units had been sold worldwide. That’s equal to the lifetime production count of the Murciélago. The 10,000th iteration was sold in September 2020.

4. Over its lifetime, the Aventador had more than eight variants and over ten one-off and limited edition versions.

5. 85 per cent of Aventador models sold had some Ad Personam customisation. That makes sense because if you’re paying that amount of money, you should get it personalised to your taste.

6. Lamborghini created over 200 colours and trims for the Aventador. Astonishing!

7. At Japan’s Lamborghini Day 2017, five bespoke Aventador Roadster S models wowed onlookers. They were finished in shades representing the natural elements from the Japanese culture – water, earth, fire, wind and sky.

8. In 2021, two cars in specially-conceived colours inspired by Korea’s culture and flag were presented in Seoul: Green Ocno symbolizing ‘warm Korean sentiment’ and the Blue Emera ‘intelligence and wisdom’.

9. An Aventador S Goodwood Special Edition in grey and orange Ad Personam colours with Goodwood decals and interior embroidery was created as a one-off in 2017.

10. Movies: An Aventador LP 700-4 featured in the Dark Knight Rises (2012) and another appeared in Transformers: Age of Extinction in 2014.

11. An Aventador LP 750-4 SV recorded a sub-seven-minute lap time (6:59:75) at the fearsome Nürburgring Nordschleife in 2015. In 2018, an Aventador SVJ reclaimed the lap record at the same venue by completing the lap in 6:44.97.

And there was so much more. It gave birth to limited-run models such as the SVJ Xago and Miura Homage, and a few-off models like the Veneno and the Centenario. There was also a one-off called the SC18 Alston. It was a track car for a customer, created in collaboration with Squadra Corsa – Lambo’s in-house motorsport division. As you can see, the list of highlights can go on and on.

The Aventador’s replacement will be a PHEV. The Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle will use an all-new V12, along with electric power. And it will break cover before 2022 comes to a close. That’s all we know so far.

Even after a production run of a decade, I want to say – gone too soon

Such are the times we’re living in! If something doesn’t have words like sustainability, economy and vegan in its brochure, it gets labelled as uncouth.

I hope to see someone come up with a sustainable Aventador in the future
