Yamaha XSR900 Turned Into Factory-Backed Ice Racer by Deus Ex Machina

Yamaha and Deus Ex Machina have turned the XSR900 into a factory-backed ice racer built for the Swank Rally On Ice in Andorra.

What is the News?

Yamaha Motor Company’s European division, in collaboration with Deus Ex Machina, developed a one-off custom ice-special motorcycle based on the Yamaha XSR900, created specifically for the Deus Swank Rally On Ice.

What is the Deus Swank Rally On Ice?

The Deus Swank Rally On Ice is an off-road event in Andorra that brings together custom and adventure motorcycles prepared for snow and ice. The event is as much about style, creativity, and experience as it is about outright competition, which makes it a fitting stage for a machine like the XSR900 Ice Special.

How different is this custom from the standard Yamaha XSR900?

Visually, the Ice special takes quite a dramatic path compared to the stock XSR900 roadster styling. The motorcycle shifts from a relaxed roadster stance to a more purposeful dirt-track-inspired one. The one-off Ice special features a flat-track-style rear section, a larger race number plate, off-road-focused tyres, an Akrapovic exhaust system, and an extended bash plate that runs from the headers to the end of the exhaust lines.

The motorcycle also features nostalgia-inspired white-and-pink graphics draped across the bodywork, said to be inspired by Yamaha’s YZ125 and YZ250 dirt bikes from the 1990s.

What has Yamaha kept from the stock bike?

Underneath the swanky custom motocross bodywork sits Yamaha’s standard XSR900 mechanical architecture, featuring an aluminium frame harbouring a 890cc liquid-cooled three-cylinder engine mated to a slick 6-speed gearbox. The CP3 engine in its stock form makes 117 hp at 10,000 rpm and 93 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm.
