Volkswagen Tiguan Exclusive Edition Launched In India

The SUV comes with a 2.0-litre TSI motor producing 188bhp.

I’ve always maintained that in India, at least, Volkswagen Tiguan is an excellent all-rounder. Behind the restrained looks, which age better than anything bolder, the SUV has a potent powertrain, loads of features and best-in-class fit-and-finish. And to liven things up a bit, Volkswagen India has now introduced an Exclusive Edition of the Tiguan, priced at INR 33.50 lakh – the same as the Tiguan Elegance variant.

To justify the ‘Exclusive Edition’ tag, Volkswagen has garnished the SUV with a few features inside and out. The list includes load sill protection at the rear, 18-inch Sebring Sterling Silver wheels, aluminium pedals and dynamic hub caps. And if onlookers miss out on those enhancements, there’s the ‘Exclusive Edition’ badging both inside and outside the cabin. Lastly, the Volkswagen Tiguan Exclusive Edition is available in just two colours – Oryx White and Pure White.

As for the rest of the features list, it is the same as that of the Tiguan Elegance. It covers stuff like a panoramic sunroof, LED matrix headlights, multiple drive modes, three-zone automatic climate control, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Vienna leather seats with heating function and 30-colour ambient lighting. On the safety front, the Tiguan Exclusive Edition comes with a tyre pressure monitoring system, all four disc brakes, parking sensors at both ends, an electronic differential lock system, hill start and descent control, driver fatigue detection and a rear-view camera.

Under the bonnet is the same 2.0-litre TSI engine that offers 188bhp/400Nm. It comes coupled with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. For the record, the same engine-transmission combo does duty in the Skoda Superb, Audi Q3 and the Audi A4. Volkswagen claims that the Tiguan can return up to 12.65kmpl. That mileage figure isn’t bad for an SUV that weighs over 2.2 tonnes (gross).

In India, the Volkswagen Tiguan competes with the Citroen C5 Aircross, Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson. If you had to pick, which one would it be?
