Volkswagen confirms the sporty ID.Buzz GTX

The LWB model with seven seats is also scheduled

The Volkswagen ID.Buzz is already a success with a full order book until the end of the year. It must be said that the neo-retro style, largely inspired by the Combi, has been a hit with customers, despite the high price compared to its ancestor. The production rate of the electric van will therefore increase in 2023. This is a good thing, because the ID.Buzz range will be extended in the same year to satisfy more customers.

First of all, a long wheelbase version will be offered for families. Its length will provide more legroom for the rear passengers. In addition, this model will also have seven seats. While the middle row remains a bench seat, the two additional seats in the boot will be individual folding seats. Also, the longer wheelbase will bring new technical possibilities.

The German manufacturer suggests a much larger battery with a capacity of 111 kWh, which would make the ID.Buzz LWB the series production Volkswagen with the largest battery. A range of up to 550 or even 600 km could then be expected. The other important new feature that we have been waiting for for a few months is the arrival of a GTX sporty variant with four-wheel drive.

A second electric motor will be added to the rear axle of the vehicle, which will allow the ID.Buzz GTX to develop a total power of 299 PS, a figure identical to that offered by the ID.4 and ID.5 GTX. In terms of aesthetics, the ID.Buzz GTX is expected to gain different front and rear bumpers suggesting more sportiness. New wheels will also signal the athleticism sought by the GTX.

On board, the vehicle will receive red stitching and possibly bucket seats like the GTX SUVs. The GTX version will be exclusive to Europe. The United States will also get all-wheel drive but without the GTX name. The long-wheelbase Volkswagen ID.Buzz and GTX will be presented during 2023 before being launched in 2024.
