Virtus Helps Volkswagen Enter The ‘India Book of Records’

The brand has a dealership in Kerela to thank for this achievement.

150. That’s how many units of the Virtus were delivered in one day by a single dealership. And this created a national record and was officially noted in the ‘India Book of Records’. Which dealer? The certificate has been awarded to EVM Motors & Vehicles India Pvt. Ltd., Volkswagen’s dealer partner in Kerela.

It seems the Virtus has struck a chord with the people. Ever since it went on sale on June 9, 2022, demand and delivery aspects have shown early signs of a success story. Take Kerela’s example. VW India has two dealer partners in the state, and they have jointly delivered over 200 units already. The other partner is Phoenix Cars Pvt. Ltd.

About the car? The Volkswagen Virtus is a petrol-only sedan. There are two TSI engine options available – a 1.0-litre and a 1.5-litre. Where the former offers 115hp/178Nm, the latter makes the Virtus the most-powerful sedan (tied with the Skoda Slavia) in the segment with 150hp/250Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque converter and a 7-speed DSG (exclusive to the larger powerplant).

Besides competing with its step-sibling – the Skoda Slavia – the Volkwagen Virtus locks horns with the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. However, out of the lot, only the City and Verna have diesel engine options.

Volkswagen has 152 showrooms in India, a count that will steadily rise with more localised products in the pipeline. Earlier this year, Volkswagen retired two of its longest-serving workhorses – the Vento and the Polo. Though, both are still listed on the official website. Perhaps, VW still has some stock to clear. If you’re interested in landing a smashing deal in either of those axed models, here’s a tip: contact as many dealers as possible. Currently, VW sells three models in India, two of which are products of the India 2.0 project. The one that isn’t localised is the Tiguan.
