What is the new Venezianico Nereide Tigris?
The Nereide Tigris belongs to the Venetian brand’s diver’s watch family. Showcasing a genuine Tiger’s Eye dial, it pays tribute to ancient trade routes; more specifically those with India. For almost 2000 years, “precious stones, spices and extraordinary materials” embarked on a long sea voyage from India, across the Indian ocean and the Red Sea through to the Mediterranean and finally to Venice, “carrying with them not only valuable goods but also cultures, knowledge and stories.”
What are its dial features?

The dial is crafted from Tiger’s Eye, “a natural stone shaped over millions of years that makes every Nereide Tigris a unique, one-of-a-kind timepiece.” The stone disc is only 0.4 mm thick and is fixed to a brass base. The hands and applied hour-markers are coated with BGW9 Super-LumiNova.
“A variety of quartz formed over millions of years through extraordinarily slow geological processes, Tiger’s Eye is distinguished by its fibrous structure, which gives rise to the remarkable optical phenomenon known as chatoyancy. Golden, amber and deep brown bands appear to flow across the surface as the angle of light changes, creating a living interplay of reflections.”
What are its case and bracelet features?

The case is made from 316L stainless steel, measuring 42 mm (diameter) and 12.5 mm (thickness). Lug-to-lug distance: 49 mm. Dial side features a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. Closed caseback is screwed to the main case. Time and date setting and winding is via the screw-down crown at 3 o’clock. Water resistant up to 20 ATM, approximately 200 metres or 656 feet.

The watch comes with the brand’s five-link Sansovino bracelet. It features alternating satin-brushed and polished finishes and is fitted with a clasp incorporating an integrated micro-adjustment system.
Is it powered by an automatic movement?

Yes. It is powered by the Sellita SW200-1, a Swiss Made automatic movement that drives the hours, minutes, hacking seconds and date. It comprises 26 jewels, beats at a modern frequency of 4 Hz or 28,800 vph and delivers a power reserve of approximately 38 hours.
What do we think?

Venezianico excels in producing watches that convey Venetian stories at an affordable price point. Founded and independently owned by brothers Alberto and Alessandro Morelli, the brand has tasted success and is gradually expanding its global presence. They are available in my home country India, where a handful of my watch collector friends have added one or more watches from the brand to their collection.
The Nereide Tigris is another watch from the brand with meaningful storytelling, luxury craftsmanship, relative rarity, and an affordable price point.
The brand unveiled Calibre V5000 last year, a new Italian made manually wound movement that signifies their desire to transition themselves towards a haute horology segment. Please click here to read our interview with Alberto Morelli on the new movement.

Not a limited edition, but limited production. The first batch of 500 pieces is almost sold out. The second batch will commence in 2027 or later. This is because of the availability of natural Tiger’s Eye, and the difficulty in its craftsmanship require a longer production time.
