Vacheron Constantin and Emirati Artist Omar Al Gurg unveil “Among the Pillars” Exhibition

An artistic collaboration for the month of Ramadan

“We are proud to collaborate with Omar Al Gurg, a talented and creative artist who beautifully blended together the strong cultural heritage of the region with the precision of fine watchmaking and craftsmanship. In the spirit of Ramadan, this distinctive masterpiece embodies values of heritage, community and Islamic art through the use of innovative and sustainable palm tree material. We welcome our clients to discover this avant-garde installation in our regional boutiques. Ramadan Kareem!”Christopher Ramel, Vacheron Constantin Regional Managing Director – Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa.

Vacheron Constantin

Vacheron Constantin is among the most prestigious watchmakers in the world. Founded in Geneva, Switzerland in 1755, it is the oldest continuous watchmaker in existence. Vacheron Constantin will celebrate its 269th birthday this year. Few of the most historical, technically impressive, innovative, beautiful, bejeweled timepieces display “Vacheron Constantin” on its dial. Their collections include Patrimony, Traditionnelle, Métiers d’Art, Overseas, Fiftysix, Historiques and Égérie. Discerning collectors can commission bespoke timepieces from their Les Cabinotiers department and acquire vintage timepieces from their Les Collectionneurs selection.

Omar Al Gurg

Omar Al Gurg is a renown Emirati designer. Born in Dubai, he is the founder of Modu Method, a platform that enables him to promote accessible designs to a global audience, “uniting contemporary pieces with timeless appeal.”  Modu Method “seamlessly blends creativity, community, and functionality in his globally acclaimed work. His iconic “Spike” and versatile “NU” pieces reflect an intuitive and pragmatic design philosophy, solving real-life problems.”

Modu Method’s designs reflect an Arab identity and convey unique stories, making each of his pieces an extraordinary creation in the world of design.

“Among The Pillars”

Omar Al Gurg is known for his minimalist and adaptable approach towards his designs. This aspect resonates with Vacheron Constanin’s annual theme – Less’Ential:

“The essence of excellence lives in many subtle details – a slender silhouette, clean lines, precision and mechanical virtuosity.”

Omar Al Gurg, inspired by the culture of the Middle East, has created a 4-metre-tall masterpiece comprising of two materials, both innovative and locally sourced.

“PlyPalm”“is a new material made of regional palm tree fronds, which turn palm tree branches into a statement of elegance.”  PlyPalm is a sustainable material, and its robust hexagonal pillars convey the “strong roots and foundation” of the Middle East region’s heritage. The hexagonal pillars also represent the origin of time, historically conveyed by the pillar’s shadow onto the floor.

“DateForm”“is the world’s first date-seed based solid surface, which transforms date seeds into an element that enriches our interiors.”  DateForm “further amplifies” the traditions of the month of Ramadan and forms the backwall of Omar Al Gurg’s art piece.

Vacheron Constantin’s Maltese cross is present via an engraved plate on the top of the shorter pillars, connecting the world of haute horology with local craftmanship.

Omar Al Gurg’s main art piece is presently exhibited in the Atrium of The Dubai Mall flagship Vacheron Constantin boutique. It is replicated in all regional Vacheron Constantin boutiques across the United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain. This artistic collaboration will be exhibited for the entire month of Ramadan.
