This V12 Roadster Is The Ferrari SP51

Made exclusively for a collector in Taiwan, it joins the brand’s list of one-off creations.

Every car that comes out of Ferrari’s Special Projects Programme not only deserves but demands attention. And why not when, on average, a project takes about two years to complete. The latest to join the bandwagon is what the Italian brand calls SP51 – a one-off made exclusively for a collector in Taiwan. Ferrari fanatics will immediately pounce on it and say, “there’s a hint of the 812 in there”. Yes! To be more precise, the SP51 borrows the chassis, engine and layout from the 812 GTS.

Before we get to the bespoke bits, let’s clear the air around the powertrain. Ferrari hasn’t mentioned anything apart from it being inherited from the model mentioned above. That means it’s safe to assume that the naturally-aspirated 6.5-litre V12 punches out 789hp, enough to propel the donor car to 340kmph at full blast.

The SP51 has several unique touches inside-out. One of the most prominent changes is the complete absence of a roof. That makes it a roadster. And because of that, Ferrari had to put in the labour to hone the aerodynamics. The SP51 spent time in a wind tunnel and on the road before the engineers gave it a go-ahead. Then there’s the colour, which Ferrari calls Rosso Passionale. The three-layer paintwork was developed specifically for the SP51, while the blue-white livery is inspired by the 1955 Ferrari 410 S.

The special treatment continues with the bespoke headlamps, the wheels with carbon-fibre wings, the arched rear end, carbon scoops behind the seats and the carbon fibre wing, which folds seamlessly over the roadster’s butt. Indoors, body-coloured Alcantara makes up for the trim. And that blue-white livery is carried over on the steering wheel stitching, central tunnel and the fascia between the seats on the firewall. Apart from that, there’s extensive use of glossy carbon fibre in the cabin, while white embroidered elements add a dash of elegance.

Obviously, Ferrari won’t reveal the invoice numbers for the SP51. If I had to guess, the total amount would be easily in seven figures, left to the decimal.

That looks spectacular! Especially that rear

I like the interior. Red with those subtle accents here and there.
