The Bentayga Gets Two New Hybrid Variants

The V6-electric motor combo is now available in Azure and S models.

It isn’t a secret that like all (nearly!) carmakers in the world, Bentley aims to electrify its models. Part of its action plan is to have a full line-up of cars with hybrid powertrains by 2025. And contributing towards it are the new variants that the Bentayga has just received. No points for guessing; both are hybrid, one in Azure and the other in S form. Their introduction means seven out of the fourteen Bentley models currently available feature an electric motor mated to an internal combustion engine.

Now, let’s talk about the hybrid powertrain. That comprises a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 engine, an electric motor, an 8-speed automatic transmission and an active all-wheel-drive system. The electric motor is now more powerful than before, offering 136hp/400Nm instead of 128hp/350Nm. With that is a larger battery with an 18kWh (+0.7kWh) capacity. Those increments mean that Bentayga can travel more than 43km, up from 40km, on electric power alone. The total output now stands at 462hp, enough to take the Bentayga S Hybrid from zero to 100kmph in 5.3 seconds. Flat out, it can clock 254kmph.

Numbers aside, where the Bentayga S Hybrid has a sportier outlook, the Azure Hybrid is more comfort-focused. So, the S Hybrid boasts blacked-out bits and pieces on the outside, aggressive 22-inch wheels (available in silver, black or black with polished metal finishes), red brake callipers and seats with ‘S’ emblems. The Azure Hybrid, on the other hand, highlights its ride comfort and NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) levels. The front seats, for instance, can be electrically-adjusted in 22 ways, besides offering heating and ventilation functions. Accompanying them is diamond-quilted upholstery and a choice of three open-pore high-gloss veneers. Outdoors, the Azure Hybrid has bright chrome bits, Azure badging, 22-inch ten-spoke wheels and even a Bentley ‘jewel’ filler cap.

The Bentayga has helped Bentley reach a wider audience across the globe. And the electrification options will only aid its case further.
