This Alpine A110 Is Unlike Any Other

It’s a prototype that’ll debut at the 2022 French Formula One Grand Prix.

At this year’s French Formula One Grand Prix, Alpine will unveil an A110 unlike any other. And what you see here is precisely that. It’s a prototype that’s called the Alpine A110 E-ternité. At first glance, one might question what is different about it? The answer isn’t apparent and lies in more delicate details and what’s hiding behind the pretty exterior. Here’s one significant difference: it’s 100 per cent electric.

The idea behind creating this specimen was simple: to deliver a taste of electrified Alpine cars in a way that matches the performance of conventionally-powered models. And because this directive came only a year ago, the job (mostly) had to be a borrow-and-install one. That’s a mantra Alpine has followed ever since it came into existence in 1955.

So, for the A110 E-ternité, the sportscar maker took the battery modules from the Renault Mégane E-Tech. Because the A110’s architecture is different to the Renault model, the twelve battery modules were split into a pack of four and another of eight. The former went at the front of the sportscar, whereas the latter in the back. For transmission, however, Alpine created a new 2-speed Dual-Clutch Automatic.

Performance figures? The Alpine A110 E-ternité offers 239bhp/300Nm, enough for a 0-100kmph sprint time of 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 250kmph. In addition, the installed battery can store 60kWh of juice, delivering a WLTP-certified range of 420km. And even though the battery pack weighs 392kg, the car’s overall weight has increased by 258kg.

Alpine didn’t just stop at making the A110 an all-electric sportscar. It has also been busy enhancing the style and technology sections. For instance, the A110 E-ternité’s roof can be taken off, a solution that the brand calls “top-off”. Also, the prototype vehicle packs materials made from flax. It’s as strong as carbon fibre and offers better acoustics. The car also has an 8-speaker sound system and a multimedia solution that uses the occupant’s personal tablet.

If you get to see the A110 E-ternité in the flesh, click pictures and share them in the comments section.

I’d like to follow Alpine with EV powertrains. The only company that’ll make extra effort to figure out lightweight solutions to offset the battery weight
