The Peugeot 3008 is arriving with large batteries

For the electric version of its forthcoming 3008, Peugeot has thought big, as the SUV will be fitted with 86 kWh batteries

Expected in September, the third generation Peugeot 3008 will undoubtedly be one of the most eagerly awaited new models of the year. After discovering the innovative dashboard of the French SUV, we are now learning more about its technical specifications, which were previously unknown. Still heavily camouflaged, the prototypes finalizing the development of the 3008 in Spain have revealed a crucial piece of information about the electric variant.

Towards 430 mi of range?

Peugeot has not done things by halves when it comes to the batteries on board the e-3008. In particular, it will have lithium-ion batteries of up to 86 kWh, a capacity never before achieved in this category. The range should then be in the region of 430 mi, while the top versions will feature dual electric motors. These features have been made possible by the Stellantis Group’s new STLA Medium platform.

At the entry-level, the e-3008 could use the 51 kWh battery of the e-308 combined with a 156 PS electric motor. On the plug-in hybrid side, a 21 kWh battery will be used, enabling electric driving for around 50 mi. Basic hybrid models are also expected. While it is known that the new 3008 will lean towards the coupe SUV segment, it is not yet possible to determine its precise design. But it is certain that the differences between the electric and hybrid models will be tenuous, to say the least.

Orders open at the end of the year

The third generation of the Peugeot 3008 will be presented in September, and it will face stiff competition. The hybrid models will be up against the Volkswagen Tiguan and the Renault Austral/Rafale duo, while the electric versions will take on the Volkswagen ID.5, Tesla Model Y and Skoda Enyaq Coupé iV. The order book will be opened before the end of the year, and the first cars will be delivered in 2024.
