The Ford Maverick, which is very practical and just as affordable, is a hit in the United States. Launched in 2021, the small pickup truck from the oval brand will already have a descendant. According to AutoForecast Solutions, the second generation of the vehicle will arrive in 2027 and will continue to be manufactured at Ford’s Hermosillo plant in Mexico. The next pickup truck will retain the features that made the current Maverick so successful.
The vehicle will again be based on the C2 platform used for Ford’s compact models such as the Bronco Sport and Escape (which is the Kuga in Europe). In addition to production costs that are significantly lower than those of the higher categories, this platform also allows for electrification. A key point that the next Maverick will repeat with a hybrid version that drastically improves fuel economy.
According to AutoForecast Solutions, the current Maverick will be produced in Mexico until March 31, 2027, before handing over to the second generation on April 1, 2027. This new Maverick will continue until 31 March 2033. Between now and 2027, the Maverick will of course undergo a mid-career facelift in 2024 with some notable improvements.
New customisation options and more equipment will be included. As a reminder, the current Maverick is powered by a 2.0-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder engine with 250 PS and an 8-speed automatic transmission. A 2.5-litre four-cylinder hybrid producing 190 PS is also available with an e-CVT gearbox. The Maverick is front-wheel drive as standard but can also be fitted with all-wheel drive on EcoBoost versions.
