The future BMW M2 will be the last BMW M without any electrification

The last

As you know, the automotive world is gradually moving towards widespread electrification. And in this one-way journey, few brands will be able to slip through the cracks. Therefore, it’s best to learn good manners now! At BMW, for example, the entire future range will be reinforced by the electricity fairy, including the Motorsport branch. Thus, the single combustion engine under the bonnet will soon be a distant memory.

This information was confirmed by Franciscus Van Meel, head of BMW M. According to him, the next M2 will indeed be the very last BMW M without any hybridization. To the delight of the fans and as a last ditch effort, the car will continue to be powered by the 3.0-litre inline six with 450 PS. The future M2 will also retain the rear-wheel drive architecture dear to the brand, which will certainly make it a collector’s item.

After the M2, all BMW M models will be equipped with some form of hybridization, mainly aimed at improving the efficiency of the engines, both in terms of consumption and performance. All cars will therefore have at least 48V mild hybrid technology. Others will be plug-in hybrids or even fully electric. In this way, BMW is following Mercedes, which initiated the movement with the EQ Power brand. Audi should soon join the party.
