Subaru celebrates 50 years of all-wheel drive in Japan with the Forester XT Edition

A limited series sold exclusively in the land of the Rising Sun

Although the Subaru Forester is a discreet car in Europe, it is a very popular SUV in the US and Japan. Launched in 2018, the fifth generation of the crossover received a facelift in 2021. Now, the model is receiving a special series celebrating 50 years of the Subaru Symetrical All-Wheel Drive. The Forester XT Edition, as it is called, takes advantage of this by adding special equipment.

The model is based on the Sport trim and features four body colours: Black, Crystal White, Metallic Grey and Geyser Blue exclusive to this special series. Apart from black, these colours will contrast with the front grille, fog lamp surrounds, mirror caps, window surrounds and rear bumper, all painted in gloss black. The same goes for the 18-inch wheels, again in black.

On board, the black leather-tissue upholstery with grey stitching covers the seats and the door panels. The silver stitching is also found on the dashboard. Surprisingly, this special series does not have a touch screen, unlike other models. Instead, you have to be satisfied with a small storage compartment in the upper part of the dashboard. A monochrome screen acts as an infotainment system at the top of the dash.

The instrumentation has analog dials and displays a trip computer in the centre. All the driver assistance technologies are present. Under the bonnet, the SUV doesn’t try to surprise anyone. It relies on a 1.8-litre flat-four that develops 177 PS and 300 Nm of torque. It’s mated to a CVT and all-wheel drive, of course. The Subaru Forester XT Edition is expected to be available only in Japan.
