Royal Enfield has unveiled the Classic 650

The Heaviest Royal Enfield Yet!

Royal Enfield has taken the wraps off the Classic 650 at the EICMA in Milan, Italy. The Royal Enfield Classic 650, in all essence, is based on the Super Meteor 650 and Shotgun 650 – sharing the same underpinnings and most importantly the engine – Classic 650 is powered by the exact 648cc parallel twin, which powers other 6 motorcycles in bearing the Royal Enfield badge, the engine produces 46 hp and 56 Nm of torque – mated to a 6 – speed slipper clutch gearbox.

The Royal Enfield Classic is almost identical to the Classic 350. The rounded headlamp, tiger lamps, teardrop-shaped fuel tank, and round fender take cues from the Classic 350. Yet, The Classic 650 incorporates design characteristics that make it distinctive from the Classic 350, due to subtle changes such as twin exhaust pipes, a wider rear fender, and a bigger fuel tank – which sets the bigger Classic 650 slightly apart from the Classic 350. These buffed-up exterior bits have resulted in considerable weight gain for the Classic 650 – standing at 243kg, the Classic 650 is the heaviest in the Royal Enfield lineup.

Although, much of the mechanical parts are shared with the Super Meteor 650 and Shotgun – the suspension is specially sourced from Showa, particularly designed for The Classic 650’s weight and Royal Enfield also claims the Showa suspension drastically improves the ride of the Classic 650 compared to other 650s in their line up.

When it comes to the features, The Classic 650 Comes with a semi-digital console with a Tripper navigation. Additional features comprise a USB charging port, full-LED lighting, adjustable levers, and dual-channel ABS. The Royal Enfield Classic 650 comes with a single seat from the factory, however, it can be fitted with a pillion seat by installing the bolt-on sub-frame from the Shotgun 650.

The Royal Enfield Classic 650 will be available in four colour options including Teal, Bruntingthorpe Blue, Vallum Red and Black Chrome and the prices will be announced a few weeks later. Bookings for the motorcycle have already begun in the UK – and for the Indian market shall commence in due time with deliveries starting from early next year.

The Royal Enfield Classic 350, is among the highest-selling motorcycles in India and the highest-selling product from the Royal Enfield stable – it is to be seen whether or not the elder Classic 650 will emulate the same success for the brand.
