RM Sotheby’s lists the exotic Gran Turismo collection on sale

The big 5 from Ferrari, the most revered Lamborghinis and the rare XJ220S will go under the hammer in November

If recent electrified news stories from car manufacturers depress the car enthusiast in you, the upcoming London auctions by RM Sotheby’s will undoubtedly ignite the spark inside every petrolhead. Come November 5 and the astonishing single-owner Gran Turismo Collection, comprising the best from Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bugatti and the rarest of Jaguars and rally cars, will be put under the hammer by RM Sotheby’s in London. Caution: excessive drooling to follow.

It would’ve been hard to imagine seeing the Big 5 Ferraris anywhere except the Maranello factory or the Ferrari World Abu Dhabi. However, the Gran Turismo collection has had the dream Ferraris in its stable right since it left the factory. All the Big 5 from Ferrari, comprising the ‘85 288 GTO, the only second model to feature the GTO moniker after the 250 GTO, a ‘91 F40 – the epitome of analogue cars boasting a twin-turbo V8, one of 349 F50’s housing F1-derived technology and the ‘03 Enzo and the ‘14 LaFerrari – both at the pinnacle of automotive technology, are on offer. A couple of open-top exotic Ferraris, such as an ‘11 599 SA Aperta, a ‘00 550 Barchetta Pininfarina and a ‘06 Superamerica, can be bid upon too.

The single owner appears to have a passion for high-speed GT cars. Only that can explain his love for Ferraris and the most revered Bugattis. The Gran Turismo collection will see a ‘93 EB110 GT featuring a 3.5-litre V-12 and a Bugatti Blu paint finish put under the hammer. A rarer, one of 30 only ‘96 Bugatti EB110 Super Sport will also be on sale, boasting higher performance figures than its predecessor and a weight deficit of 150 kilos. But Bugatti cemented its legacy with its current crop of hypercars, a notable one being the ‘22 Chiron Super Sport 300+, included in the Gran Turismo collection. Only 30 ever produced, and the example on sale has clocked just 1,416 miles on the odometer and features a Black Carbon exterior with Jet Orange stripes, estimated to fetch up to £4.5 million.

The Gran Turismo collection would be incomplete without the presence of a Lamborghini that essentially invented the term ‘supercar’ – the Miura. The Gran Turismo collection includes a ‘71 Miura SV finished in Miura Verde shade and aims to fetch around £2 million. And the other notable for going under the hammer is the Miura’s successor, the Countach. The example on sale is an ‘84 Countach LP5000 S unit finished in dramatic white over white, and the second owner demands an estimated £500,000.

Two rare Jaguars further comprise the highlight of this Gran Turismo collection. One of six road-going XJ220S’ were built, and the unit on offer is a ‘93 model presented in orange over grey, and a 217mph top speed capability commands a £1 million price tag for its rarity. Another rare Jaguar offering is a TWR-bred ‘91 XJR-15 limited to 53 builds only. The underpinnings for this road-going race car was derived from the Le Mans-winning XJR-9, and the unit on offer only has 67 miles on the clock, asking for approximately £1 million.

The collection also features some Group B rally cars, including the Walter Röhrl-piloted ‘82 Lancia 037. An ‘86 Lancia Delta S4 finished in Martini livery, along with an ‘85 Audi Quattro S1 E2, is on sale too. Each of these cars ask for £1 million and above.
