Novitec Tunes Up The SF90 Spider

Besides power, the low-slung super PHEV gains more downforce and carbon.

If you’re into the car tuning scene, Novitec is a name that you must be aware of. It’s a German brand that spruces up everything from exotics to luxury liners. And its latest offering is for the Ferrari SF90 Spider. Besides more power, the low-slung PHEV gains new suspension and more carbon. To improve aerodynamics, Novitec even ran some tests in a wind tunnel. Those who remember the Novitec Ferrari SF90 coupe will relate to this project quite well.

First, the powertrain. The SF90 has a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, three electric motors and 8-speed automatic transmission. In standard form, they all come together to offer 1,000hp. Novitec, however, has beefed up the internal combustion engine with new maps for injection, ignition and the electronic boost pressure, and modified the exhaust system. As a result, the tuned SF90 Spider puts out 1,109hp, while the torque has gone up by 118Nm. With the extra oomph, the sports car can hit 100kmph and 200kmph from nothing in 2.4 seconds (0.1 seconds faster) and 6.5 seconds (0.5 seconds quicker), respectively. The top speed is north of 340kmph.

Novitec then took to the science of aerodynamics and downforce. After running tests in a wind tunnel, the engineers devised new body panels made entirely of naked carbon. The spoiler and the detachable side sections on the front fascia increase downforce at high speeds, whereas the ducktail spoiler and diffuser at the back complement by offering enhanced aerodynamic stability. One could add race fenders, carbon rocker panels, ORVM caps and trim on the windows. Even the engine bay and the bonnet boast naked-carbon elements.

Coming to the wheels, they’ve been co-created with the American manufacturer Vossen. The NF10 set comprises a five-twin-spoke design with a hub cover at the centre. At both ends, the wheels span 21 inches in diameter, with the rears wrapped with fatter rubber. Those who don’t like the design can opt for one from the options list, which includes 20- and 21-inch wheels. And yes, the custom springs lower the ride height by 30mm and 25mm at the front and rear axles, respectively. Novitec also fits a front lift system, which allows the car to be raised by 40mm. As for the interior, there are nearly endless colour options for leather and Alcantara upholstery.

So, there you have it. The Novitec Ferrari SF90 Spider sure looks stunning. Do you agree?
