Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Sets New Record At Yas Marina

The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT is the fastest production battery electric vehicle (BEV) at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, UAE, setting an official lap record.

The Taycan Turbo GT adds the Yas Marina Circuit to the list of famous race tracks around the world, as it is the fastest production battery electric vehicle. The Yas Marina Circuit hosts the final round of the Formula 1 season each year and is the epicentre of motorsport in the Middle East.

UAE-based GT racing driver and Racing School instructor Ramez Azzam set a lap record of 2:07.247 on the 5.281 kilometre Yas Marina Circuit, the same layout used for the final round of the FIA Formula One World Championship each season.

The new system for setting official lap records requires cars to undergo a thorough inspection before they take to the track, ensuring they meet production specifications. On-track activity is then limited to a 60-minute practise session, followed by a 45-minute qualifying session to set the lap record.

The Emirates Motorsports Organisation (EMSO) oversaw the entire process, led by veteran FIA senior official Fergus Lavers, with full race control facilities in operation. Track limits are also enforced to ensure that lap times comply with regulations.

Leveraging the expertise Porsche gained from its championship-winning 99X electric car competing in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, the Taycan Turbo GT brings this technology to the road as the most powerful production Porsche ever.

The Taycan Turbo GT and the Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach Package feature a more powerful pulse converter, delivering 789 hp. This power increases to 1,033 hp with Launch Control and 1,108 hp in just two seconds, as measured by the peak power method.

The Turbo GT accelerates from zero to 100 kmph in 2.2 seconds and reaches a top speed of 305 kmph thanks to the paddle shift technology from Formula E. The Taycan Turbo GT features an Attack mode that delivers an additional boost of up to 163 hp in 10 seconds. It comes standard with lightweight ceramic brakes inspired by the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB).
