The event was no casual drive. Under the supervision of EMSO and strict FIA-level oversight, the SUV underwent scrutineering to confirm its production specification. With just 45 minutes to lay down a record in the qualifying session, the atmosphere was charged.
Azzam, already a proven racer with a GT4 class win in the Dubai 24 Hours and multiple wins in the Lamborghini SuperTrofeo Middle East series, was unfazed. He said, “It felt like a real race. I had to push hard and nail the lap within the session. One lap was disallowed for track limits, but the Cayenne’s ability to brake late and corner flat kept me confident.”
The conditions were tough with track temperatures nearing 40-degrees Celsius and high humidity levels just added to the pressure, and tested both driver and machine. But the Cayenne Turbo GT thrived under the challenge, setting an average speed of 141.83 km/h.
The record has turned the spotlight firmly on the Cayenne Turbo GT. It also sets the benchmark for production SUVs at one of motorsport’s most revered circuits.
