Porsche Reveals The New Carrera T

It slots between the entry-level and S versions of the 911 range.

If you want a lightweight Porsche 911 but don’t want to spend on a GT, the new Carrera T could be the answer. In the brand’s book, the T stands for touring. According to Porsche, the Carrera T offers a recipe for purists. But it isn’t as hardcore as any of the GT versions. And in the variant lineup, the newcomer slots between the entry-level and S derivatives.

For propulsion, the Carrera T takes the engine from the standard 911. That’s a 3.0-litre, twin-turbo six-cylinder mill that offers 385hp and 450Nm of torque. As standard, the powerplant comes coupled with a 7-speed manual transmission, whereas the 8-speed PDK is an optional extra. With the manual gearbox, which isn’t available with the standard 911 Carrera, the Carrera T can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 4.5 seconds and clock 291kmph flat out.

The Porsche Carrera T builds on the standard equipment of the Carrera S. In the mix are the Sport Chrono Package and the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), with the latter reducing the ride height by 10mm. Also included is Porsche Torque Vectoring with a mechanical rear differential lock. The Carrera T also packs a GT sports steering wheel, sports exhaust system and powered Sports Seats Plus (4-way). The new variant rides on 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch rims at the rear, with the latter wrapped in fatter rubber. The rear-wheel steering, however, is on the options list.

Compared to the entry-level 911, the Carrera T weighs 35kg less. No rear seats, reduced insulation, lightweight glass and a lightweight battery, contribute to that weight loss. Don’t let the omissions put you off, though. The Carrera T does stand out from the rest of the range with bespoke styling touches. For instance, the ORVM caps, the door and rear logos, and the trim strips on the rear lid grille are finished in Agate Grey. The tailpipes, on the other hand, are in high-gloss black. The cabin dons decorative trim in matte black in conjunction with high-gloss black inlays.

Those willing to spend more can refer to the options list, where they’ll find stuff like an interior package, electric Adaptive Sports Seats (18-way), bucket seats with Race Tex and Porsche’s Paint to Sample programme, which offers paintwork in more than 110 colour hues. Else, one could choose from the 13 shades, including Carmine Red, Shark Blue, Python Green and Ruby Star Neo.

The Porsche Carrera T will reach the dealerships in February next year. The booking counter, however, is open. The starting price in Germany is 123,845 euros.
