A collaboration during the holy month of Ramadan.

PIAGET

Initially founded as a manufacturer of timepieces movements, the 20th century saw Piaget creating and marketing its own line of timepieces. As a watchmaker, Piaget is a pioneer in ultra-thin timepiece movements, both mechanical hand-wound and automatic. In addition, Piaget is a world-class jeweller. Their jewellery expertise comprises of design and craftsmanship, gem-cutting and setting, enameling, gold craftsmanship, as well as others. The combination of their watchmaking and jewellery heritage and expertise has resulted in iconic collections such as “Altiplano, Piaget Polo, Limelight Gala, Possession, Piaget Sunlight, Piaget Rose and Extremely Piaget.”

Piaget is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year.

Razan Al Azzouni

Razan Al Azzouni is a renown Arab designer. Born in Saudi Arabia, she attended Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts (USA), where she studied sculpture, screen-printing and papermaking. In addition to her love for art, was her love of fashion. After her graduation, she transformed her love of fashion into her own clothing line. Her clothing line draws inspiration from her love of art.

“I think of my clothing as sculptures. I love playing with light and layering, beading and embroidery. I love the way they create reflections and give dimension to the clothing; It’s this play with light and depth that turn them into sculptural pieces that tell a story.”

Kaftans, jackets, tops, trousers, shorts, dresses, and skirts comprise her namesake brand’s clothing line. It also includes accessories such as earrings, bracelets, necklaces, belts, and shoes such as sadu, flats and pumps. She is the first Arab designer to collaborate with Disney for a clothing range for children aged 2-8 and for women. She has collaborated Rene Caovilla, an Italian luxury shoe brand for women.

She is a dear friend of Piaget and has collaborated with Piaget in the past, where “she reinterpreted the Piaget Possession Décor Palace collection and its art of gold by creating two embroidered artworks showcasing the Piaget signature gold crafting technique, Décor palace; a technique that Piaget has been incorporating since the 1960s, inspired by the guilloché technique traditionally used in watchmaking.”  This embroidery has been featured in limited edition Piaget jewellery pouches.

Piaget X Razan Al Azzouni

For Ramadan, both Piaget and Razan have collaborated to introduce a collection of exclusive coffee cups, “that blend the essence of Piaget’s craftsmanship with Razan’s creative vision.”  To create these coffee cups, Razan drew inspiration from two aspects of Piaget.

First, from their mastery of goldwork – melting, mastering, carving, and engraving – performed by their craftspeople from their ‘Ateliers de l’Extraordinaire,’ who work in secrecy in their Geneva workshops.

Second, from the “essence of the Sun,” a key symbol in Piaget’s iconic creations.

Using these, she has captured the soul of Piaget, and then drew further inspiration from their Possession collection “by incorporating inversed designs.”  She then combined these with her own artwork, the result of which are these exclusive coffee cups, a creation that is gorgeous, timeless, collectible and an heirloom, to be passed down through generations.
