Oris has unveiled a new version of the Aquis Date Relief. It follows the relaunch of the Aquis Date, a version of which we wrote about recently. The Aquis Date Relief is an evolution of Oris’s “signature dive watch.”
Key Features
Image: Stainless steel bracelet version. The unidirectional rotating bezel is to safely track dive times. The raised minutes scale on the bezel – presented in relief – is a distinctive feature of this watch. It provides a functional and tactile quality. “The complex manufacturing process behind this creates a three-dimensional scale and offers buyers a handsome, rugged alternative to the smooth, polished ceramic bezels found on standard Aquis models.”
Functions and Operations
Central hours, minutes, and seconds. Stop-second function.
Date aperture at 6 o’clock.
Screw-in crown at 3 o’clock for time and date setting. Quickset date.
Dial
Grey dial with a sunburst finish.
Hands and applied hour-markers are coated with Super-LumiNova.
Minutes scale on outer dial.
Case
Image: The Aquis Date Relief is a “high-performing, hard-wearing dive watch.” The colour of the date wheel is same as the dial, a thoughtful and aesthetical pleasing design touch.
Multi-piece case is made from stainless steel. Unidirectional rotating bezel features a stainless steel insert.
Diameter: 43.50 mm. Thickness: 13.10 mm. Lug width: 23 mm. Lug-to-Lug distance: 51 mm.
Dial side features a sapphire crystal, domed on both sides, with anti-reflective coating on the inside. Stainless steel caseback is screwed to the main case and features a mineral glass. Water resistant up to 30 bar or approximately 300 metres.
Bracelet and strap options: Multi-piece stainless steel bracelet with a security folding clasp with extension. Bright red rubber strap with a security folding clasp with extension.
Movement
Image: A dependable and robust automatic movement that can be serviced by competent watchmakers worldwide. I love the red bit on the automatic winding rotor.
Powered by Oris calibre 733-1, an automatic movement based on the Sellita SW200-1. It drives the hours, minutes, seconds, stop second function, and date.
Diameter: 25.60 mm or 11 ½ lignes. Jewels: 26. Frequency: 28,800 vph or 4 Hz. Power reserve: 41 hours.
Our Thoughts
Image: The red lollipop shaped seconds hand adds a touch of colour to the grey sunburst dial, and goes well with the bright red rubber strap.
As I have mentioned before, Oris is renowned for making simple, robust, and affordable watches that address a broader segment of collectors. They also possess considerable expertise in dive watches. The Aquis Date Relief makes a compelling case for a versatile watch, ideally suited for an active lifestyle. My personal favourite is the version with bright red rubber strap.
