Novitec Tunes Up The Elva

Only 149 units of the roofless two-seater will ever exist.

Let’s get one thing straight from the get-go; the McLaren Elva isn’t a slouch by any measurable means. It has a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 outputting 815hp/800Nm, enough to catapult it to 100kmph from a standstill in 2.8 seconds. The sprint to 200kmph is dealt with in 6.8 seconds, and it’ll keep pulling until the speedometer reads 326kmph. And let’s not forget that the Elva has no windshield and no roof, meaning the passengers will feel that punch on the go from earthly elements.

So, the last thing you’d probably need as part of the Elva experience is more oomph. But what if you do? Well, help is at hand from Novitec. The German tuner has devised three performance kits, all involving the installation of a plug-and-play N-Tronic module. Its introduction upgrades the electronic engine control system with unique maps for injection and ignition. The auxiliary control unit takes control of the electronic boost pressure control. Novitec also installs a custom, fully thermally insulated exhaust system, which reduces back pressure. However, customers can improve efficiency by opting for the 999 fine gold plating.

As a result, the output goes up by 104hp/88Nm, bumping the total to 919hp/888Nm. The added horses and torques help slash the 0-100kmph and 0-200kmph sprint times by at least a tenth of a second. As far as the top speed, that’s north of 330kmph.

Novitec doesn’t touch Elva’s bodywork. The wheels, however, are bespoke. Available in 20 (front) and 21 (rear) inches in diameter, they’ve been jointly developed by the tuner and the American alloy wheel manufacturer Vossen. The wheels boast seven twin spokes, all extending to the outer edge. At the centre is a hub cap to mimic a centre-lock look. And if you don’t like the colour shown in the accompanying photographs, there are 72 other shades with a brushed or polished finish.

The Novitec McLaren Elva also dons a new suspension that drops the ride height by 20mm. But, of course, that only adds to the driving dynamics. And lastly, Novitec offers a tailor-made interior for the low-slung super sports car. There’s an endless choice of colours, while the upholstery options include Alcantara and leather.

So, do you like what Novitec has done here? Is there something you’d have preferred differently or, perhaps, more of?
