New Aston Martin Vantage Roadster has the fastest dropping top on the market and 655 horsepower

Based on the new Vantage released last year, the Roadster takes the roof off for open air Aston shenanigans

The new Vantage Roadster takes the fixed-roof model and slices off the top. The roof is the fastest-operating top on the market, opening and closing in a mere 6.8 seconds and at speeds up to 31 miles per hour. This is far slower than the 3.5 seconds the car takes to get from zero to sixty with its 4.0L twin-turbo V-8.

There are fewer convertibles on the market than 20 years ago, so the Vantage Roadster is a welcome addition. You’d be right to be concerned about weight and whether removing the top compromises the roadster. Aston says the convertible only adds a mere 132 pounds with all the framework, stiffening, and mechanisms needed to drop the top faster than everyone else.

Speaking of speed, the Roadster has the same top speed as the fixed-roof Vantage. Handling too shouldn’t be much worse as the suspension has been modified to accommodate the rearward bias of all the convertible’s added mechanisms. The Roadster gets the Active Vehicle Dynamics, Electronic Rear Differential, Bilstein DTX active dampers with bespoke tuning, just like its sibling. All of this allows the Roadster to achieve a 49:51 front-to-rear weight distribution.

Beautiful in both Coupe and Roadster versions, the drop-top has a couple more paint options available to it with Iridescent Sapphire, Satin Iridescent Sapphire, and Bronze Flare. The roof can be optioned in four colors: black, red, blue, or black and silver. Painted liveries are also available in 21 complementary colors. Four different 21” wheels can be had with seven colors for the brake calipers. Needless to say, if you design your own Roadster, you might have a rare car when you’re done.

Marek Reichman, Aston Martin Chief Creative Officer, said: “This new Vantage Roadster is a sculptural masterpiece. The resonant roar of its engine brings its simple yet refined surface design to life, creating a connection that’s impossible to ignore. Its form exudes beauty, its athletic stance conveys predatory intent, and its sound delivers a visceral, sensory experience. Created as both art and performance, the engine’s sound amplifies this balance, turning the auditory experience into an essential part of the journey. With the roof down, the soundscape becomes as dynamic as the design, blending simplicity, power, and a visceral connection that transcends driving into an unmatched sensory experience.”

But what do you think? Looking at this new Aston Martin Vantage Roadster, it sure makes me want to own a piece of luxury open-air motoring.

Cheers,
