Modena Automobili restomods the rare Maserati Shamal

This isn’t your dad’s Shamal, it’s something quite special and rare

The north wind begins to blow again. The hot air hits your face as you glance out on the horizon. Is it a mirage, or can it be an old Maserati Shamal? As it gets closer you see the telltale cues of something special, something unique. It’s a Shamal, but to the keen eye, this is been modernized quite a bit.

This is the Modena Automobili MA-01 Maserati Biturbo Shamal. It’s a replacement for the original car from 1990 to 1996. This new restomod model is a bit more special, high-tech, and modern. Starting with the body, it has been completely redesigned. Steel and carbon fiber were used to reduce weight. The grill was lowered. LED headlights were added and recessed with a carbon structure and enlarged air intake for the engine and brakes. The hood required a bulge for the new powertrain.

Historically the pinnacle of the Shamal was the twin-turbo V8 with a mere 369 examples produced in total. The new car by Modena Automobili will have a Maserati-designed and Ferrari-supervised 3.0L twin-turbo V6 that produces 500hp and 500 Nm. The ZF automatic 8-speed fitted will be there to let the power flow to the wheels and allow 0-100 km/h in 5.0 seconds with a top speed of 290 km/h.

The interior will pay homage to the original but be modern and high-tech which modern buyers will require. Recaro Classic LX front seats, restored rear seats, and a digital dashboard inspired by the “d’antan” Shamal are present. State-of-the-art infotainment, automatic climate control, and the Maserati oval clock, now removable and wearable, can be seen along with pedals, dash, and shift knob that harken back to the original Shamal. You’ve got a choice of premium audio from Bose, JBL, or Alpine for tunes.

If something like this is appealing to you, it would be best to get ahold of Modena Automobili right now because they’re only producing 33 of the MA-01 Maserati Biturbo Shamal. They’ll be assembled by hand and individually numbered in Modena and homologated by TUV Germany. Pricing starts at 585,000 Euros and is fully customizable with the donor car at no additional cost.

Cheers!
