MINI unveils the all-electric Cooper E and Countryman E

The new International Motor Show is MINI showcases its latest EVs

The ongoing IAA (International Motor Show) visitors in Munich, Germany, will witness the rebirth of an icon – the electrified MINI family. The MINI lineup now steps into its fifth generation as the family, comprising the three-door MINI Cooper and the family-friendly five-door MINI Countryman in all-electric avatars with a new EV-centric design to depict the same.

The design of either new EV is typical MINI with short overhangs and a short bonnet, but the firm has ironed out the panels for the Cooper and Countryman EVs to boast the new “Charismatic Simplicity” design language. The rear profile has been revamped entirely to make the fifth generation more identifiable. The daytime running light elements for the LED headlights are also new and feature a special welcome and farewell light animation.

But the interior is where the more significant changes can be observed. Modern, digital and minimalistic is one way to describe the cabin revamp. The central OLED display, the MINI Interaction Unit, features a high-definition screen and houses the instrument cluster display and infotainment system like all previous MINIs but with a high-end display and overlaid graphics. The gearshift has been eliminated to create additional storage space between the front seats.

The interior upholstery is a two-colour textile developed using a special knitting process to create an easy-care, versatile structure. All trims of the new electrified MINI family get seats in high-quality Vescin artificial leather, textiles and yarns for the seat, knitted surfaces, vehicle headliner and floor made from recycled materials. The major design differences between the Cooper and the Countryman are reflected in the air vents – horizontal for the former and vertical for the latter.

MINI offers two states of power output in both new EV launches. The new MINI Cooper E and SE boast 184hp and 218hp of power along with 305 km and 402 km of claimed range, respectively. Similarly, the Countryman E generates 204hp with 462 km of claimed range while the higher-specced Countryman SE ALL4 all-wheel-drive put out 313hp and a claimed range of 433 km.

In addition, MINI announced that April 2024 will see the premiere of the MINI Aceman as a crossover in the premium small car segment.
