MICROMILSPEC unveils the new Project Sabotage with Black Badger

MICROMILSPEC has unveiled the new Project Sabotage with renowned experimental artist James Thompson, better known as Black Badger.

Founded in 2019, MICROMILSPEC is a Norwegian watch brand renowned for developing custom mechanical watches “in close collaboration with military units and select organizations.” A few of their prestigious customers include French Special Forces, Oslo Fire Brigade, Norwegian Air Defense Artillery, His Majesty The King’s Guard (Norway), Paratroopers NO (Norway), Paratroopers SWE (Sweden), and 333 Squadron Royal Norwegian Air Force.

Project Sabotage is based on their MILGRAPH, a watch we wrote about in last year. The MILGRAPH was “born from over 40 custom military projects. Originally developed for Special Operations Forces, the MILGRAPH is purposefully designed with a swapped crown position to reduce wrist injuries and QuadGrip bezel, enhancing mobility and ease of use when kitted up. Stripped of unnecessary embellishments, the MILGRAPH is a reliable and untraceable timekeeping instrument.”

Project Sabotage is almost identical to the standard MILGRAPH, except for Black Badger’s use of “standout lume” on the watch.

Functions

Central hours and minutes. Seconds on subdial at 3 o’clock.

Chronograph functions. Central chronograph seconds. 12-hour counter on subdial at 12 o’clock. 30-minute counter on subdial at 6 o’clock.

Central true GMT hand.

Dial

Matte white dial with a grainy finish.

Hands and hour-markers are coated with high output X1-grade Super-LumiNova. Designed by Black Badger with RC Tritec of Switzerland, it “glows an Ultramarine colour in darkness.”

An hour and minute track, graduated in increments of 5 minutes each, encircles the outer dial

The orange outer flange is for the 24-hour GMT function.

Case

Case is made from grade 5 titanium with a microblasted finish. It features a uni-directional QuadGrip bezel (120 clicks) with a minute scale.

Diameter: 42 mm. Thickness: 15 mm. Lug-to-lug: 50.30 mm. Lug width: 20 mm.

Dial side features a domed scratch resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. Screw-in closed caseback. Screw in crown and chronograph pushers are on the left side of the case. Water resistant up to 10 ATM or approximately 100 metres.

Choice of orange or white rubber strap. An additional black rubber and leather strap also provided.

Movement

Powered by Caliber L121, Soignée, an automatic column-wheel chronograph movement made by La-Joux Perret SA in La-Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. It drives the hours, minutes, seconds, chronograph functions, and the GMT function. It features a stop-second function for accurate time setting (according to the La-Joux Perret SA website).

Jewels: 26. Frequency: 28,800 vph or 4 Hz. Power reserve: 60 hours.

Our Thoughts

Project Sabotage with Black Badger is a colourful and super cool take on a handsome watch. Black Badger has collaborated with prestigious brands such as De Bethune, Hautlence, MB&F, and Sarpaneva to name a few, and his work has graced the wrists of celebrities such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, the late Ken Block, Lando Norris, Robert De Niro, and Robert Downey Jr.

MICROMILSPEC is a young watch brand with a primarily military and special forces identity, and the collaboration with Black Badger perhaps enhances their visibility with a greater number of watch collectors and enthusiasts.
