MG Gloster Blackstorm Edition Launched In India

It is available with 6 and 7 seats, with or without four-wheel drive.

After teasing it a couple of times, Morris Garages India has launched the Gloster Blackstorm edition. The darkened-out version is available in four variants, covering six- and seven-seat layouts, with or without a four-wheel-drive system. Here’s how they are priced:

• Blackstorm 6/7 Seater 2WD: INR 40.30 Lakh

• Blackstorm 6/7 Seater 4WD: INR 43.08 Lakh

Simple math reveals that in Blackstorm form, the MG Gloster costs INR 1.30 lakh more than the standard derivatives. So, what do you get for the premium? The black paint job is accompanied by darkened (Black and Metal Ash finishes) emblems of 2WD, 4WD, New Gloster and Internet Inside. Furthermore, the roof rails, window surrounds, alloy wheels and grille are blacked-out, while the ‘Blackstorm’ logo on the fender stands out. Rounding off the exterior are the red accents on the doors, inside the headlamp clusters, the ORVM caps, the callipers and the bumpers. The dark theme continues inside, where the all-black upholstery is complemented by red stitching and an accent on the steering wheel.

There are no mechanical changes to report. That means the 2WD variants come with a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel mill producing 158hp/373.5Nm, whereas the 4WD derivatives make use of the twin-turbocharged version of the same engine, which outputs 212hp/478.5Nm. Both powerplants come coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission by default.

As before, the features list is probably the segment-best. Besides ADAS Level-1 systems, such as adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, Lane Change Assist, and Driver Fatigue Reminder System, the MG Gloster has tons more in its package. The list includes a 12-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with massage, memory and ventilation functions, seven drives modes, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, an automatic tailgate with kick gesture opening, Hill Descent Control, auto-dimming IRVM, a 12.28-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12-speaker sound system. And, of course, the i-Smart 2.0 ropes in several connected-car features.

In addition to the four Blackstorm variants, the MG Gloster ranges also include six other derivatives. The prices for those six are between INR 32.60 lakh and INR 41.78 lakh, covering three trim levels, 2WD and 4WD options and 7- and 8-seat layouts. And rivals? It locks horns with the Jeep Meridian, Isuzu MU-X, Toyota Fortuner and Skoda Kodiaq.
