MG Comet EV Launched In India

It has a single electric motor producing 42hp/110Nm.

Are you planning to purchase a battery-powered city runabout without spending too much money? Then, you’ve got another option to check out. It’s called the MG Comet EV, starting at INR 7.98 lakh. There’s only one price tag at the moment. However, more variants of the said hatchback will be announced later.

The Comet EV has a two-door, four-seat layout and is perfectly proportioned for a congested city. To put things in perspective, it is over half a metre shorter than the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10. The newcomer has a single electric motor that produces 42hp/110Nm. That gets its juices from a 17.3kWh battery, which is efficient enough for a range of up to 230km. Also, MG offers the Comet EV with a 3.3kW charger. Under ideal conditions, it can replenish the battery from 0-100 per cent and 10-80 per cent in 7 and 5 hours, respectively.

Features? The Comet EV comes with stuff like LED-powered headlamps and taillamps, an illuminated MG logo, keyless entry, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an equally-large digital instrument cluster, power front windows and a one-touch slide & recline front passenger seat for second-row access. For safety, the car has a rear-view camera, a tyre pressure monitoring system, three-point seatbelts for all seats, ISOFIX anchorages for child booster seats and an IP67 rating for the battery, among others. The Comet EV also packs MG’s i-Smart tech with over 55 connected-car features.

A touch of personalisation is always welcome. MG Motor India has devised over 250 combinations of stickers and graphics for the Comet EV. What’s more, these add-ons are available in four colours. As for the vehicle, it is available in three monotone and two dual-tone finishes.

MG Motor India confirms test drives for the Comet EV will commence on April 27, 2023. As for the bookings counter, that opens on May 15. Furthermore, deliveries should start before the calendar reads June 2023. So, the question is – would you settle for the MG Comet EV or the Tata Tiago EV?
