MG 8 PHEV Makes Middle East Debut With Luxury Features And Hybrid Efficiency

British-origin brand MG Motor launches the new MG 8 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) in the Middle East. The new MG 8 PHEV marks MG’s first foray into the mid-sized sedan segment with a PHEV powertrain within the Middle East. MG claims the new MG8 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle will boast a hybrid range of up to 1650kms, comprising 125kms of no-emissions all-electric driving range. Prices for the new MG 8 PHEV start from USD 24,900 or AED 91,445.

MG will be offering the new MG 8 PHEV in two trims – 1.5L STD and 1.5L COM. The former MG 8 PHEV in STD trim will boast features like LED headlamps with fog lamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, dual digital displays, a 6-speaker audio system, USB ports for front and rear passengers, auto air conditioning with rear vents, a 6-way powered driver’s seat, a leather steering wheel, and essential safety features such as multiple airbags, parking sensors, and regenerative braking.

Customers aiming to buy a vehicle with added sophistication can opt for the MG 8 PHEV 1.5L COM trim, which further adds 18-inch alloy wheels, curtain airbags, a 360-degree camera, power-folding mirrors, a ventilated and memory driver’s seat, and a four-way electric passenger seat. Prices for the MG 8 PHEV 1.5L COM trim in the Middle East start from USD 27400 or AED 100,626 onwards.

MG claims the MG8 has been put through rigorous testing under the Middle East’s challenging weather conditions. The model also carries both GSO (Gulf Standardization Organization) and SASO (Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization) certifications, highlighting compliance with the region’s highest quality and safety standards. An industry-first 5-1 PICU Controller has also been equipped, which ensures the vehicle reduces energy waste and improves efficiency. Additionally, the NVH levels have also been improved by 10%.

Powering the MG 8 PHEV will be a 1.5L plug-in hybrid engine delivering 201hp and 330Nm of torque. MG will utilise its advanced DMH super hybrid technology, which is capable of switching intelligently between petrol and electric power. This will reportedly offer “excellent pickup, strong power delivery, and smooth long-distance performance while maximising fuel efficiency.”

Buyers of the MG 8 PHEV expecting a comfortable cabin experience should be pleased to see the fitment of premium leather upholstery, dual 12.3-inch infotainment screens, zero-gravity cloud-sensing seats, a sunroof, and more. Plus, the rear passengers will benefit from an extended rear legroom of 933mm and suede quilting across the upholstery within the cabin.

Tom Lee, Managing Director of MG Motor Middle East, stated: “The all-new MG 8 PHEV demonstrates our commitment to driving innovation and setting new benchmarks in the Middle East. Following its Guinness World Record achievement for the longest distance covered by a PHEV, this model delivers record-breaking range, advanced hybrid technology, and refined design. With hot-weather testing, GSO and SASO certifications, and powerful performance tailored for this region, the MG 8 PHEV reinforces our position as one of the fastest-growing automotive brands in the Middle East.”
