Mercedes gives its vans a final update
The German brand is facelifting its vans for a second time before the planned handover in 2026
The darling of luxury hotels and wealthy families, the Mercedes V-Class is celebrating its ninth year on the market. The German brand is now giving it a major facelift, following an initial update in 2019. Visually, the radiator grille on the combustion models has been enlarged even further, and now resembles that of the electric EQV version.
The light signature has also been reworked, and new colours and wheels have been introduced. A new Exclusive trim has been added to the top of the range. It features a distinctive front end with the Mercedes star on the bonnet. The other Base, Style and Avantgarde trim levels remain, and can still be combined with the Black Line and AMG Line packs.
A cabin now worthy of a luxury sedan
The V-Class also retains its three lengths, with a Compact, Long and Extra Long model still on the programme. However, it’s the interior that benefits from the biggest changes, with the dashboard now resembling that of the brand’s passenger cars. Two 12.4-inch screens are positioned in a row, as on the latest A-Class.
The large chrome panel on the passenger’s side further enhances the car’s status, while the air vents have been completely redesigned. The touchpad controlling the MBUX system has also been changed, as has the steering wheel, which now has capacitive keys. The V-Class is of course fitted with the latest trendy equipment, such as level 2 semi-autonomous driving, LED matrix headlights, a 360° camera and augmented reality navigation.
No mechanical changes
Under the bonnet, the van still relies on diesel power, with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder available in three power levels: 163, 190 and 239 PS. This engine continues to be mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox, and all-wheel drive is still an option. On the EQV, the 66 kWh or 100 kWh battery is combined with a 204 PS electric motor. The range is 255 and 405 km respectively, and the maximum DC charging power remains capped at 100 kW.
Arrival in dealerships in early 2024
Finally, the electric replacement for the V-Class should arrive in 2026 on a new platform that will significantly improve these figures. For the time being, the facelifted Mercedes V-Class, EQV, V-Class Marco Polo, Vito and eVito will arrive in dealerships in early 2024. Prices will be announced at the same time.
