Mercedes facelifts the GLA crossover with more features as standard

Tweaked headlights and taillights are key differentiators

Mercedes Benz appears to be on a line-up upgrade spree. The German carmaker recently updated the GLC SUV and GLC Coupe premium crossovers with tweaked exterior changes and more standard features. And now, a similar facelift treatment has been extended to its entry-level crossover, the GLA as well.

Mercedes Benz has unveiled the all-new 2024 GLA, and the updates revolve significantly around technology. A free-standing dual-screen unit comprising a 7-inch and a 10.25-inch screen for the instrument cluster and infotainment system is offered as standard. Customers can upgrade to a dual 10.25-screen layout for an added cost. Leather upholstery for the steering and cabin elements and comfort seats are now available as standard. The list of additional standard features in the 2024 models includes the Mirror package, Highbeam Assist, Parking Package, and Keyless-Go Package. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now available as well.

The other new technological addition to the GLA range is the option to incorporate a selection of mini-games. Developed especially to be operated via the crossover’s touchscreens and the touch control buttons on the steering wheel, one can turn their new 2024 GLA into a gaming console with classic games such as Sudoku, Shuffle Puck, Pairs, Match 3 and a quiz on offer.

The lighting setup is one way to distinguish the new model from its predecessor. The headlights and taillights are brand-new units, angled downwards and aligned with the recent crop of Mercedes cars featuring a similar design. The new grille adds another unique aspect to the 2024 model, along with the fitment of a tweaked, sportier-looking bumper.

The standard 2024 Mercedes GLA model will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing up to 221hp. This engine can be had with either a front-wheel-drive or an all-wheel-drive setup. A new 48-volt hybrid system and belt-driven starter-generator aid the engine, capable of providing an additional 13hp boost temporarily.

Mercedes GLA35 AMG

The performance iteration of the GLA crossover also introduces minor design tweaks that separate this AMG derivative from the standard model. A vertically-slatted AMG-spec grille and AMG badging on the hood are key identifiers along with dual exhausts and a sporty diffuser at the rear. Inside, the GLA35 gets an AMG Performance Steering wheel and performance-centric red accents across the cabin. The GLA35 AMG further benefits from all-wheel-drive and a tuned-and-tweaked suspension as standard to lend a sportier drive experience. The engine is a similar 2.0-litre turbocharged four-pot mill, but this derivative puts out 302hp. Mercedes-AMG quotes a 0-100kph sprint time of less than 5.5 seconds. No word on the GLA45 AMG has been released yet.
