Mercedes-AMG Will Make Only Five Of These

It’s the Edition 55 derivative of the GT3 race car.

You thought AMG was done celebrating its 55th anniversary, didn’t you? Honestly, even I felt that we won’t see any more celebratory versions of models. But, as it turns out, we were wrong, as Mercedes-AMG is back with yet another creation. This time, however, the Germans have taken a race car as the base. Which one? The GT3.

What you see here is the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 55. Unlike the donor car, the Edition 55 isn’t FIA homologated. In other words, it cannot compete in FIA race events anywhere. But, if you want one that you could take racing, Mercedes-AMG will honour your request and ensure that your AMG GT3 Edition 55 meets the standards.

Those who couldn’t care about taking the car racing will get a retuned version of the 6.3-litre V8. That pumps out 650hp, nearly 100hp more than the FIA version. Then there’s the exhaust system, which comes without a silencer. That means the car will be loud. Like, really loud.

The Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 55 also boasts bespoke styling elements. The exterior, for instance, is finished in alpine grey uni, which comes from the brand’s Manufaktur division. Complementing the paintwork are red accents on the roof, bonnet, sides and even on the massive rear spoiler. That and other aero components, such as the front and rear diffusers, flicks, louvre, radiator grille and the side skirts, don visible carbon finish. Other highlights include the Affalterbach crest on the doors, AMG and anniversary logos on the rear wing, slick tyres and a limited car cover with the anniversary logo.

Indoors, the GT3 Edition 55 boasts a Bosch DDU (Data Display Unit) that displays the anniversary logo. The same can be found embroidered on the seats, while the seatbelts feature silver accents. There’s also a plaque that reads “Edition 55 – 1 of 5”, and visible carbon accompanies the matt finish on the dashboard, door sills, door covers, air duct and the centre console.

And all those who buy the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 55 will also get an IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “AMG”. Engraved on it will be the chassis number, a limited Edition 55 box with plaque “Edition 55 – 1 of 5”, and an additional strap.

Now, the price. It’s 625,000 euros, excluding VAT. If you had the money, would you buy one?
