Mercedes AMG EQS 53 4Matic+ launched in India at INR 2.45 crores

This performance luxury EV will be the brand’s flagship car for India

India got its first taste of luxury electric vehicles with the Mercedes Benz EQC SUV launch. Since then, carmakers like Audi and Porsche have penetrated the Indian market with faster, more performance-derived offerings such as the RS e-tron GT and the Taycan sports sedan. And now, it is Mercedes’ turn to join the electric performance bandwagon with the launch of its new flagship car in India – the Mercedes AMG EQS 53 4Matic+.

The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+ is the first production car from Mercedes’ AMG performance division to be launched in India. Priced at INR 2.45 crores, it demands a premium over the Audi (INR 1.89 crores) and the Porsche (INR 1.53 crores) and for a good reason. While the rival EVs have performance as the top priority, the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+ aims to combine performance with ultra-luxury to reserve the first ever all-electric AMG title for itself.

The AMG EQS 53 will be brought to India via the CBU route. Only the detuned base trim Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 luxury sedan will be locally assembled in India following a festive launch later this year.

The EQS53 packs a 400V, 107.8kWh lithium-ion battery, capable of charging up at speeds of up to 200W. Mercedes claims the AMG EQS will offer up to 586kms of range in a single full charge. Furthermore, a super low drag coefficient of 0.23cD makes the AMG EQS 53 the most aerodynamic production car in the world.

Power output is rated at 762hp and 1020Nm torques, courtesy of a two-motor setup mounted on the front and rear axle and the racier Dynamic Plus package as standard. This all-electric luxury sedan can achieve 0-100kph in 3.4seconds and top out at 250kph. The dual-axle dual-motor setup allows the EQS to offer four-wheel drive as standard as well.

Being an AMG, Mercedes has made a deliberate attempt to make it look like one. Hence, this variant gets AMG’s famed Panamericana grille up front, a tweaked rear diffuser, a bigger rear spoiler and an aggressive alloy design. Inside, the cabin is as luxurious, and high-tech as a flagship Mercedes sedan is expected to be. The dashboard-spanning 56-inch all-digital hyper screen can be found here, along with the MBUX software that is said to adapt to the user’s personal preferences by adjusting the infotainment, comfort, and vehicle functions. The EQS records a step towards sustainable production as cabin materials are said to have been made from recycled fish net and carpet scrap.
