Louis Erard X Konstantin Chaykin's impressive new Time Eater Tourbillon

Louis Erard and Konstantin Chaykin have introduced the Time Eater Tourbillon. It is Louis Erard’s fourth collaboration with renowned Russian independent watchmaker and his namesake brand – Konstantin Chaykin.

Louis Erard is renowned for making interesting watches accessible to a broader segment of watch collectors. Led by Manuel Emch, their watches are often a result of collaborations with renowned watchmakers such as Vianney Halter and artists such as Sylvie Fleury.

Konstantin Chaykin is among the most talented watchmakers in the world, mostly famous for the Joker and the Wristmons (short for “wrist monsters”) collection – “emotionally charged watches, created on the principle of joker indication” – that it spawned.

“Chaykin wanted more madness. More complexity. Specifically: a tourbillon. And when Konstantin Chaykin wants to build a monster and stir things up, you don’t say no. So here we are with two editions, the same monster spirit and different executions. One for him. One for us. This isn’t strategy. It’s two independents off the leash, building creatures, not just watches. Having fun, making noise, and letting the monster out to play. Because time does not only tick, we make it bite. And this beast? It’s still hungry.” Manuel Emch, CEO of Louis Erard.

Our Thoughts

Konstantin Chaykin is renowned for extraordinary horological creations – both watches and clocks. His clocks alone make him a horological superstar. It was the Joker that made him famous. Wristmons is a genre he is passionate about. His ThinKing & PalanKing, the thinnest mechanical watch in the world achieved an exceptional result at the Geneva Watch Auction: XXI by Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo in May. It sold for CHF 508,000If you love horology and independent watchmaking, it is worth taking a closer look at his creations.

Image: Imagine wearing this to watch GTGs. A conversation starter for sure.

His collaborations with Louis Erard are less about haute horology and more about design, playfulness, and not taking oneself too seriously. The Timer Eater Tourbillon is a fun (or scary, after all it is a one-eyed monster with scary teeth) take on A.L. Breguet’s tourbillon.

The Time Eater Tourbillon is a win for both Louis Erard and Konstantin Chaykin. For Louis Erard, it reinforces them as the king of unique and accessible collaborations. For Konstantin Chaykin, it allows him to share his design codes on an affordable watch. I will not be surprised if collectors of Konstantin Chaykin’s creations seek the Time Eater Tourbillon to add to their collections. At 78 pieces (green) and 28 pieces (Blue) it also promises rarity.
