Lotus Cars Enters India With Eletre

The electric SUV is available in three variants, with peak output up to 905hp/985Nm.

British brand Lotus Cars has finally entered the Indian market. And it begins the innings with its most modern product – the Eletre. Touted by the brand as a “hyper SUV”, it’s an all-electric model with a large battery pack and two electric motors. The e-SUV is available in three variants, with prices starting at INR 2.55 crore. Here’s the price list:

• Eletre: INR 2.55 crore

• Eletre S: INR 2.75 crore

• Eletre R: INR 2.99 crore

To put those figures in perspective, the starting price of the Lotus Eletre in the UAE is AED 480,000. Convert that into the Indian currency, resulting in INR 1.09 crore. In its home country, the UK, the Eletre has a starting price tag of GBP 89,500, just north of INR 91 lakh at current exchange rates.

The Eletre and Eletre S variants pack the same powertrain, comprising two electric motors and a single-speed gearbox. Both have the same output, too, which is 603hp/710Nm. That’s enough for a 0-100kmph sprint time of 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 257kmph. Those in need of more oomph will like the Eletre R more. It also has two electric motors but with a two-speed transmission. With 905hp/985Nm as the peak output, the Eletre R can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 2.95 seconds and hit 266kmph flat out.

All three variants feature all-wheel-drive, an 800-volt electrical architecture and a 22kW AC on-board charger. That charger can replenish the 112kWh battery from zero to 100 per cent in 5.8 hours. However, using a 350kW DC feed, the Eletre can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 20 minutes. The WLTP-certified range is 600km for the Eletre and Eletre S and 490km for the Eletre R.

As far as the features list is concerned, it includes five drive modes, an active air suspension, torque vectoring, matrix LED headlights and an active front grille. The list also includes 12-way powered front seats, four-zone automatic climate control, wireless smartphone charging, five seats (four available with the Executive Seat Pack), LIDAR technology for autonomous driving and a 15.1-inch OLED touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

As standard, the Lotus Eletre rides on 22-inch wheels. However, buyers have options of 20- and 23-inch rims in five different designs. There are six colours for the brake callipers and as many for the exterior at launch – Natron Red, Galloway Green, Stellar Black, Kaimu Grey, Blossom Grey and Solar Yellow. The options list is where one will find stuff like an active rear spoiler, configurable ambient lighting, soft-close doors, auto-dimming ORVMs and a 2,160-watt, 23-speaker KEF sound system (the standard has 15 speakers and an output of 1,380 watts).

The Lotus Eletre also has six upholstery options for the interior, including environmentally friendly and odour-free genuine leather. For carpets and the boot liner, made-made fibre is used that’s 100 per cent recycled and 100 per cent recyclable.

In 2024, Lotus Cars will launch the Emira in India. It’s the brand’s latest and last conventionally-powered sports car. It has two engine options – a 2.0-litre four-cylinder producing 360hp/430Nm and a 3.5-litre supercharged V6 outputting 400hp/420Nm.

Lotus Cars has chosen Exclusive Motors as its authorised dealer in India. The first outlet will open in New Delhi, followed by others to expand the footprint.
